7:00 PM		 Litchfield Park 85340 Sonoran Gophersnake Was initially called for rattlesnake in back patio. While en route to the property, the customer texted photos, and I ID’d the snake as a Sonoran Gopher snake. Arrived on property and was escorted to backyard by customer. Noticed snake peeking it’s head out from behind grill cover which was on the ground in the patio. Approached snake and as it attempted to crawl away I captured it by hand. Sizable snake approximately a meter in length. Performed inspection of backyard and no other snakes noted. Back yard was pretty much free of clutter. Noted a few areas where snake may hide unnoticed and pointed them out to customer. Drainage block in the wall of the side yard to the south is where I suspect snake entered from. Looking at map the snake likely came from canal to the west of the home.

9:00 AM		 Litchfield Park 85340 Sonoran Gophersnake Has gophersnake on patio. Attracted to shade and hiding in a crack. Advised on future prevention.

10:00 PM		 Litchfield Park 85340 Mojave Rattlesnake Received call about rattlesnake in the backyard. Arrived at the property and was met by customers who escorted to the backyard. Husband was in the backyard watching the snake. Noted an adult scutulatus in defensive posture in the gravel on west side of yard. Used gentle tongs to capture snake without issue. Inspected the remaining backyard and no other snakes found. Customer stated their dog was outside who alerted them of the snake’s presence. Customer stated when he first saw the snake it was against the wall of the north side of yard. Customer stated the snake slowly made its way to where I observed it while he waited for my arrival. Snake was noted to be mellow but observant. Snake did not rattle until it was secured in the bucket. Snake was older as evidenced by sizable and uniform rattle. Yard was not large and was kept neat and mostly free of anything a snake could seek refuge long term. Upon inspection the customer pointed out two areas in the block wall that had sizable gaps in the masonry one of which I suppose a snake may have been able to get through but not easily. I suspect the snake likely entered through the gate of the side yard on the north end of the property as this is where the snake was moving towards once it was discovered. There was desert access in the neighborhood however it was ten houses to the east. Informed customer that I believed the snake entered through the gate and offered free fencing quote. Customer stated he was a contractor and would patch the gate himself. Side yard on the west end of the property had a few patches of fountain grass with a condenser drain between them with water puddling up. Pointed this out to customer encouraged customer to remove the grass as it was invasive and it would eliminate a hiding spot for a snake.

8:00 AM		 Litchfield Park 85340 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner’s pool guy spotted the snake as he was about to enter the backyard. The snake was coiled next to the house in the side yard. The property didn’t have any vegetation, but it did back up to the desert.

6:30 PM		 Litchfield Park 85340 Longnosed Snake A house sitter called and said she had a snake stuck in a hole in the side of the home she was staying at. I arrived and found a longnosed snake stuck several inches up into a very small hole in a metal bracket on the underside of the stucco. The snake had been there for several hours and seemed unable to back out or move further up into the wall. I used some cooking oil and very gently and very slowly worked the snake out. It took about 10 minutes. The snake came out cold and stressed but did not seem to have any injuries at all.

10:30 PM		 Litchfield Park 85340 Sonoran Gophersnake The homeowner was alerted by his dog barking at something outside. While investigating, he heard a distinct rattling coming from under an old nightstand that had been sitting near the front porch for some time. He was convinced it was a rattlesnake and called us right away. I arrived a short time later and lifted the nightstand to find a very large, hissing gophersnake. Although not the rattlesnake that he thought it was, the homeowner still wanted the snake removed from the property. This home sat on the outskirts of Litchfield Park and was not in a developed neighborhood. The White Tank Mountains and State Trust land were a short distance just to the west. On the property, there were a lot of items like car parts, tires, and old appliances scattered about, making for a lot of great hiding spots. I searched the entire property but did not find any additional snakes.

1:00 PM		 Litchfield Park 85340 Sonoran Gophersnake The homeowners had a potted plant in a shaded area of their back porch. In addition to a large house plant, the planter also contained a quail nest with eggs. The homeowner was checking on the eggs and was surprised to find that a small Gophersnake had made itself at comfortable right on top of the eggs. I carefully removed the snake and found that all of the quail eggs remained intact. This home was located in the far west valley, not far from White Tank Mountain. The homeowners were working on a landscaping project and had a lot of new, well irrigated plants. I was told that the back gate normally stays closed but had been left open frequently during the project. There were also narrow gaps about every 10 feet along the block wall large enough for a small snake to easily fit through. I searched the rest of the property but did not find any other snakes.

9:30 AM		 Litchfield Park 85340 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The owner of a home in Litchfield Park was leaving for the airport when she saw a small rattlesnake curled up under a shoe rack in her garage. She closed the garage door, left for her trip, and called us the next day. I arrived and she had remotely opened the garage door for me. I found the snake just where she said it was and searched the garage for others but did not find any. At this point, I had started a FaceTime conversation with her. She closed the garage door and had me check for gaps. There were significant gaps at the bottom corner of each side of the door. The center was also noticeably bowed out, but the gap that it left may have been negligible compared to the two on each side. At this point, she mentioned that she had just spent $2000 on snake fencing the week prior. I confirmed it was not done by us, and then as a courtesy, went to check the backyard. The first issue was that the gate was completely unsecured. There were some pavers placed underneath, but a gap remained. There were also gaps in-between several slats as well as on the frame. The backyard had a lot going on. It is a standard-sized yard for a typical, single-family home in a newer development, but almost the entire space is being used as a garden. There was a large pile of compost on the ground just past the gate. There is a view fence along the back that overlooks a very narrow wash. There is 1/4-inch mesh installed by some other company. I did not comment to her on the condition of the installation. Moving to the opposite side of the home, there is a drain in the block that was also covered in mesh. The yard is very crowded with plants and other things, and it offers endless cover for snakes. I did not ask if the people who installed the fence did a very thorough inspection before installing the fence, but I told her how important that was. She mentioned that she gets several rattlesnakes every year. When I asked her how she normally deals with the rattlesnakes, she told me that she chops their heads off. I was able to educate her a little and I kindly asked that she consider calling us in the future. She was a pleasure to speak with, and she is eagerly awaiting a call about an estimate on what can be done about the fencing. She will be out of state for the next week.

6:30 PM		 Laveen 85332 Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake The homeowner was out in the back yard with her dogs when she spotted the snake slithering along. She got “snake fencing” done by her pest control company and it was not done good at all. They used half inch mesh and it’s not high enough and also doesn’t go down to the ground. Her yard doesn’t have much for vegetation but she backs up to south mountain and has a view fence.

The snake was under a lawn mower in the back yard. The home is right on South Mountain with a few rocky hillsides nearby. They have a large yard. They have had several snakes over the years and their dog has previously been bitten. The snake was likely going to be hibernating in the near by large rocks on the hillside

The home is in a rural area on 9 acres of open space with no cell phone reception. Customer requested to be billed. Customer may be a good candidate for having the dog run rattlesnake-fenced, as she asked about ways to prevent snakes from entering the small fenced portion of the yard.

8:30 AM		 Green Valley 85614 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake 39" 8b (USS) stuck in chicken wire and 50" 12B (USS) brute of a rattlesnake beneath it. The one stuck was rather easily removed, but it was extremely exhausted as its body was suspended in the air, I was able to release it into a packrat nest and am hopeful it makes a full recovery. Please call for a fence referral that is somewhat involved.

4:00 PM		 Green Valley 85614 None Customer was interested in inspection because he wanted a professionals input on how the 8 rattlesnakes got into his yard this year. He believed he had a secured common area. Upon arrival I noticed the fencing itself was 1/2 all the way around his yard. I told him that the recommendation for fencing is 1/4 inch mesh. I was also able to find 4 separate gaps that would allow nearly any size rattlesnake access to backyard. Once the perimeter fence area was checked for breaches I searched through yard for active snakes. I did not find any snakes. But there were 2 bird feeders with ground below covered in seed. In the seed I noticed rodent drippings as well. I recommended that they no longer use bird seed. I also recommended large plants including lantana be trimmed up so that they don’t provide deep shade for rattlesnakes. I noticed the yard plants all had drip systems. I informed about drip systems sometimes creating excess water. I did find a small rattlesnake skin in lantana in front yard area. Although an active snake was not found he truly appreciated the feedback given. He may contact us for fencing in the future. End of report.

5:30 PM		 Green Valley 85614 Mojave Rattlesnake Homeowner was bitten by a rattlesnake yesterday in their yard which then escaped into the garage afterwards. I was contacted by friend and family to come search for the snake. Luckily I was able to find a young mohave rattlesnake in the garage pretty easily. I relocated the snake and gave them the proper ID to pass onto the medical staff. They would like fencing for their yard, it would be one gate and a few cracks in a brickwall fenced yard.
