Tucson 85745 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Customer called to report a mating pair of western diamondback rattlesnakes on his back patio. The snakes had not moved by the time I arrived. When I exited the house onto the patio they decoupled and one of them tried to get away. I quickly secured both snakes. The yard has high exposure to the nearby desert. There is a block wall, but there are gaps that snakes can easily enter.

Tucson 85745 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The customer called to report they had seen a large rattlesnake in their Arizona room earlier that morning, as the door had been left open. I arrived around midnight and the snake had left the room. After searching around the yard I was able to locate a large western diamondback rattlesnake which had climbed up into an ocotillo in the back yard. The yard is well guarded from the nearby desert with a lot of plants and places for snakes to hide. I spotted a small gap at one side-fence where the snake likely made entry and couldn't figure out how to leave.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake A security guard at an apartment complex in Scottsdale called about a large Diamondback on the property. This massive old male was cruising around the property the entire time I was on my way. Unfortunately, this entire area is being developed so the desert that this old man used to call home is no longer there. I had to relocate him a bit further than I would like but kept it as close as possible to the capture site.

Tucson 85745 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was trimming a bougainvillea in her backyard when she noticed movement around the leaf litter at the roots. Recognizing a black-and-white ringed tail she called us to come get what she thought was a rattlesnake. Her dog had been bitten in this yard before. When I arrived i found what looked to be a 3-5 year old female Western Diamondback Rattlesnake coiled beneath the plant. I gently pulled at various coils to get her out and instead of rattling she just patiently pulled back. Eventually, she’d had enough and emerged from the shelter of the plant and began to rattle. This allowed me to gently put her into the bucket.

Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The owner of a home in Peoria called after seeing a rattlesnake on her back patio through the glass door. Her dog saw it was well and was barking and growling at it through the glass. When I arrived, the snake had moved into a nearby Lantana. The snake was large, extremely stressed, and was not easy to get into the bucket. I searched the rest of the yard, which had a lot of thick, overgrown Lantana and Heather. The yard had a long view-fence overlooking a wash. It had standard chicken wire installed as a snake-fence which had a lot of integrity issues. There were two gates leading to the backyard, both of which were not secure. I did not find any other snakes, but warned the homeowner of the attractiveness of her yard to snakes and made recommendations to mitigate future encounters.

Phoenix 85041 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The landscaper spotted the snake coiled in the shady corner on the back patio. This home had an open backyard that had the South Mountain Preserve behind it. In 16 years he’s only had four snakes which for having the desert right behind him isn’t too bad. He didn’t have much vegetation in the ground. A lot of his plants were in pots.

Phoenix 85018 Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake The owner of an ABNB on Camelback Mountain called after one of his guests reported being bitten by a baby rattlesnake. About an hour had passed since the bite when I was contacted, and another 45 minutes before I arrived at the residence. No one was home when I arrived because they were all still at the hospital, but thanks to very specific information from the homeowner, I located the snake fairly quickly. It was very close to the area where the encounter took place. The large home was high on the side of Camelback Mountain and had a lot of atypical features compared to most other homes in the valley, consisting of a lot of rocky nooks and water features. The "yard" was very steep and integrated into the mountain. I did my best to search the rest of the property, but I did not find any other snakes. I received word that the woman who was bitten was doing well but was still hospitalized several hours after the bite.

After catching the snake, I searched for others but did not find any. The homeowner is aware that his property is providing a lot of cover and a lot of water and it sits at the base of the mountain so there could be multiple snakes anywhere on the property at any given time.

He explained to me that someone on the previous shift had found the snake and placed sticky traps around it to keep it from escaping, and by the time he arrived, the snake was completely stuck to several of the traps. He was able to retrieve a bottle of cooking oil from the dining facility, and I gently worked the snake free. Prior to release, I gave it a rinse with some fresh water. No other snakes were found.

The snake coiled under a tree up against the back fence and thats where I got to. The yard was large and very well kept with not a lot of cover. They did have a well watered lawn. The home was probably a half mile into the neighborhood from the preserve. They did have a drainage area behind the homes that lead to the preserve. There was a gate on each side, both with a gap, and a drain on one side. I looked at the garage door as well. There was a small gap on one side, and one in the center under joint in the driveway. Glendale 85310 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The owner of a home in North Glendale called after she thought she heard a rattlesnake rattling in her living room, possibly from behind the entertainment center. By the time I arrived, it was confirmed and I removed an adult Western Diamondback from behind some potted plants next to the entertainment center. The homeowners are sure that the snake came in through the front door as it had been open for some time earlier in the day. They were an extremely nice couple and seemed completely unfazed even after finding a rattlesnake in their living room. The house sits directly across the street from some state trust and city property, both of which are open, native desert. I asked if they would like me to search for other snakes in or around the property, but they said that it would not be necessary.

Scottsdale 85260 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The new tenant of a home in Scottsdale called after realizing that there was a large rattlesnake under the patio chair that she had been sitting in for over half an hour. She said that she was talking on the phone and could not identify the source or location of the loud buzzing sound coming from somewhere nearby. She is new to Arizona after moving from the East Coast, and she thought what she was hearing was a cicada. A friend of her teenage son suggested it may be a rattlesnake, and someone tilted the chair back to confirm. I arrived and was shown to the wicker chair. You could not see underneath it because it only had a 1.5-inch gap between the ground and the base of the chair. I carefully used my hook to tilt the chair backwards, and there was the snake. It had just eaten something. I searched the rest of the yard which was large with a pool and a lot of landscaping. The home is in a development across from a high school and not far from open, native desert. The snake could have easily used a series of drainages to get into the neighborhood. A block wall surrounded the entire yard. There was a gate with a gap, as well as several drains. No other snakes were found.

Scottsdale 85259 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was having landscaping done when the landscaper cut an overgrown palo verde and heard a rattle. The tree was right behind the homeowner's fence. When I got there, I noticed a packrat nest under the tree and instantly heard the rattle when I touched it. The tree was really thick so the landscaper let me use his chainsaw to cut a path to the snake. Eventually, it slithered out of the packrat nest but went deeper into the overgrown tree. After more cutting, I eventually got the snake. The home had desert all around it between the other homes and the preserve not too far away.

Litchfield Park 85340 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The owner of a home in Litchfield Park was leaving for the airport when she saw a small rattlesnake curled up under a shoe rack in her garage. She closed the garage door, left for her trip, and called us the next day. I arrived and she had remotely opened the garage door for me. I found the snake just where she said it was and searched the garage for others but did not find any. At this point, I had started a FaceTime conversation with her. She closed the garage door and had me check for gaps. There were significant gaps at the bottom corner of each side of the door. The center was also noticeably bowed out, but the gap that it left may have been negligible compared to the two on each side. At this point, she mentioned that she had just spent $2000 on snake fencing the week prior. I confirmed it was not done by us, and then as a courtesy, went to check the backyard. The first issue was that the gate was completely unsecured. There were some pavers placed underneath, but a gap remained. There were also gaps in-between several slats as well as on the frame. The backyard had a lot going on. It is a standard-sized yard for a typical, single-family home in a newer development, but almost the entire space is being used as a garden. There was a large pile of compost on the ground just past the gate. There is a view fence along the back that overlooks a very narrow wash. There is 1/4-inch mesh installed by some other company. I did not comment to her on the condition of the installation. Moving to the opposite side of the home, there is a drain in the block that was also covered in mesh. The yard is very crowded with plants and other things, and it offers endless cover for snakes. I did not ask if the people who installed the fence did a very thorough inspection before installing the fence, but I told her how important that was. She mentioned that she gets several rattlesnakes every year. When I asked her how she normally deals with the rattlesnakes, she told me that she chops their heads off. I was able to educate her a little and I kindly asked that she consider calling us in the future. She was a pleasure to speak with, and she is eagerly awaiting a call about an estimate on what can be done about the fencing. She will be out of state for the next week.

Phoenix 85050 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The owners of a home in North Phoenix called us after finding a baby rattlesnake near the gate leading to their backyard. They said that the night prior they had just watched a Rattlesnake Solutions YouTube video about baby rattlesnakes being everywhere. This home was very close to the 51 and 101 in a development just across the canal from a small section of native desert, and this was the first rattlesnake that the homeowners have ever had on their property. I checked the front and back yards for additional snakes, but none were found. This was a very small neonate, and I was a little surprised not to find others.
