Phoenix | 85050 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner was out in the back yard kicking the soccer ball with the kids when he heard a rattle. Where the turf met up with the block wall there was an area that was indented. They assumed it was under there. I pulled back the turf to discover a rattlesnake and a bloody squirrel. The squirrel was still alive but was on its way out so I put it with the snake. After looking around I believe the snake may have been hibernating in a near by hot tub and smelt out the rodent that had a hole under the turf. The home backs up to desert and has a view fence with high block bottom. |

The back yard didn’t have much for vegetation but some stacked wood around the horse stall. The home was really close to the preserve. |

Phoenix | 85083 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Rattlesnake in bush they tried to get it but then it went in the bush. Upon arrival found customer and his neighbor using a 12 foot tree trimming pole to pin the back of the snake. That was taking cover in the shrubbery that lines the front walkway. Captured an average sized adult western diamondback. This snake likely entered the neighborhood through one of the open cul de sacs and got lost in the maze. It seemed to be a healthy weight indicating it had either not been trapped in the neighborhood long, or that it was thriving while it was in there. |

12:00 PM |
Phoenix | 85085 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Arrived at the customer’s home for a call about two rattlesnakes in the front yard. The family was gathered in the driveway with several children present. The customer pointed to a cassia bush, where I observed two smaller adult Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes (C. atrox) locked in mating. The snakes appeared aware of the crowd but remained locked, with the male twitching his head. I secured the area and used tongs to lift one snake and a hook to lift the other, providing additional support. I placed the bucket in the shade and then inspected both the front and back yards. The home has a wash directly to the east that runs up a hill into open habitat. The front yard and the mouth of the wash blend together, and this is where the snakes were found. No additional snakes were found on the property. The backyard was generally neat and tidy, with few areas where a snake could hide for long. The customer has one small dog. The backyard is enclosed by a high block wall, with one gate on the west side. The customer has installed a framed screen directly in the gate opening, requiring anyone entering the yard to step over it. The side yard on the west side of the house has drainage blocks, which I pointed out to the customer as a potential access point. I offered a free fencing quote, but the customer did not respond to the offer. |

The home has a large drainage area next to it and a desert hillside behind it. The vegetation in the yard is well maintained. The property has a view fence and a single gate. |

Phoenix | 85054 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner went out to clean up dog poop in the backyard when she saw a rattlesnake coiled up against the house. The snake was next to a large cage the dogs use in the backyard to stay safe from predators. The dog pen was filled with waste, and the snake was in ambush nearby, so I suspect there were rodents there last night. The home has a view fence and backs up to a golf course and a large area of desert. She just wants the dog pen snake-proofed. |

Phoenix | 85041 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner was about to step outside when they noticed a western diamondback rattlesnake right by the back door. By the time I arrived, it had moved under the outdoor refrigerator. After I pulled the fridge out, the snake moved behind the back wall of the outdoor kitchen, which required me to flood it out. Once it emerged, it started drinking the water, so once it was in the bucket it was treated to more water. There are access points under both side gates. The snake was released into the South Mountain Preserve, which is almost certainly where it came from. |
