Shaw Butte was directly to the east of patio entrance with open habitat maybe 30 meters away. Was shown closet and told snake was underneath wire shelving unit. I moved some items and noticed a southwestern-speckled rattlesnake in an ambush in the corner just beneath the shelf. Moved some items around to clear space and then used hook to bring snake into the open where I utilized tongs to capture and bucket with no issue. Inspected rest of closet and porch with no other snakes found. Snake certainly entered from the patio door and found its way into the closet. I suspect it was preparing to hibernate. Customer said she has lived in her unit since 2020 and this is the first snake she had seen. |

The courtyard had bricks for flooring and some up against the house weren’t sealed that well. Across the street they had a drainage area that had a bunch of stacked rocks which also would have provided a nice warm spot for winter. Hard to say for sure where it had been it was very small still. |
