11:00 AM Mesa 85207 None Received call regarding rattlesnake in back yard. Arrived to property and was escorted to back yard, and showed area where customer last saw snake. Customer stated that he did not have eyes on the snake since he called the line 45+ minutes ago. Checked area and did not immediately see a snake. Performed thorough inspection of back yard. Large backyard that blended into surrounding habitat (Usery Mtn area). That is to say when the property was built there was a fence erected to contain the backyard and besides a pool area there was minimal landscaping. Many native brush plants like Encelia, Krameria erecta, Ambrosia deltoidea, Trixis californica, Parkinsonia, and Olneya. Minimal trimming done to plants as it was a desert backyard. Searched under all brush. There was a small bridge that went over a small wash that connected the patio to the rest of the yard. Searched under there and there were several deep holes that I could not get all the way to. Fence wad chicken wire 18” tall around it. More than a couple of areas where it was not buried but I’m certain snake could enter wherever it wanted. Pointed this out to customer and offered free fencing quote to which they never responded. Inspected parts of front yard and no snakes found. Customer stated that they saw the snake, it hissed loud and coiled up, and then the customer left the scene. I suspect it may have been a Gophersnake.

Hiked the snake out to a small patch of remaining desert east of the neighborhood and placed it into a deep burrow under a creosote bush.

The yard has many bushes and flowing water features but is well maintained, and the homeowners understand their situation: they love wildlife but do not want venomous snakes in their yard. The snake was hiked back into the desert behind their home and released in deep cover in a wash.

There are rocks there that provide cover, and the snake was in the corner among them. 10:30 AM Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner first noticed the rattlesnake in her backyard. As she was watching it and waiting for me, she saw the rattlesnake go under her gate and out into the natural desert in between her house and the other neighbor‘s house. Her husband went out to see if he could see it, and he saw two rattlesnakes. The two rattlesnakes were fighting, then as he was looking around, he saw a third rattlesnake under another bush. That rattlesnake ended up going in a hole under the bush. I got the two other rattlesnakes under the other bush and tried watering out for the third rattlesnake, but it never came out and I searched the whole area and I could not find it. This home is right off of a golf course with some natural desert in between and they have a little mountain hillside right beside them. 6:00 PM Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Homeowner called about a western diamondback rattlesnake curled up along her wall in her backyard. The yard was very large and surrounded by desert on all sides of the home, with multiple entry points for snakes to enter the yard. Yard was very spacious, but did have some areas that I suggested the homeowner take care of in order to minimize the potential for rattlesnakes to find her yard useful. Hike the snake into the desert at a nearby trailhead and release it into a large Packrat nest at the base of a large Palo Verde tree.

9:00 PM Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Homeowner called about a rattlesnake in their backyard. By the time I arrived, the western diamondback had made himself comfortable underneath a large bush. After trying to get him out for about 10 minutes, I finally was able to get him. He ended up climbing up towards the top of the bush which made for a fun removal. Yard has minimal entry points and they are all fenced, however, they would like us to come look at the fencing and explore other possibilities that may have lead to the snake being in their yard. There are a few drainage pipes that come from their neighbors house and empty into their yard, we think the snake potentially came through there because the fencing is pretty tight. I hiked the snake back into the nearby desert and placed it into a packrat nest at the base of a large ironwood tree. Mesa.
