The front and back yard don’t have much cover. They do have a shed that looked pretty secure and no rodent activity under it. They thought their backyard was rattlesnake-proof, but they have the wrong size mesh, and the gate isn’t done.

I found the snake under some stuff, not too far from there. The garage door had gaps in the corners so the snake could easily get in and out. The home was a few homes away from the open desert. This was a neonate and it had plenty of places in the garage to be tucked away and out of sight.

11:00 AM		 Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner found the snake in the road out in front of his house last night. He put it in a bucket and called me today to come get it. Behind his home was a rocky hillside but that was the only desert habitat nearby. This was a small hill surrounded by homes and a highway. A few blocks away was some more desert not much that surrounded Mesa community college . I wouldn’t assume this area has many rattlesnake left because of how little habitat is around. He said the trash guy came yesterday and it was after that when he saw the neonate. I wonder if the snake had been transported to this area on accident. Either way it could not survive long in this area without being seen again so I took it to a better area.

10:00 PM		 Mesa 85207 Whiptail Lizard The homeowner called about a snake in a glue trap. Upon arrival, I discovered that it was actually two whiptail lizards, and because one of the lizard’s tails was sticking out of the glue trap I could see how someone unfamiliar with snakes could mistake that for a snake tail. Spray olive oil to the rescue, and 10 mins later both lizards were free and placed into a small rodent hole in the nearby desert.

5:00 PM		 Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Caller reported a rattlesnake that was discovered courtesy of her dog alerting her to its presence. The client was able to maintain visual from inside through a sliding glass door until I arrived. The snake was very agitated but was removed without incident. No other snakes were recovered during inspection. The client has requested rattlesnake avoidance training for her dog.

3:00 PM		 Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner stated they noticed the rattlesnake curled up in the corner of a shaded gravel area at the front of her home as she was going to work on her bench project, which she had left there to dry. When I arrived she was able to direct me right to where it was perfectly blended in to the gravel against the home as described. The rattlesnake was easily captured and contained in the bucket. The home is located within a gated community of homes with very naturalistic desert-type landscaping and large yards with lots of desert foliage, the community sits very close to the nearby Regional Park.

7:30 PM		 Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Rattlesnake was in the front yard in a bougainvillea bush. The homeowner had a recent influx of rattlesnakes this year due to nearby construction. She was bitten by one on her property many years ago while dragging her dog away from the snake. Interested in snake fencing. Concrete wall all around the property with 1 RV gate and 1 side gate. She is worried about the concrete not being level underneath RV gate but it did not look like it was uneven to my eyes or anything out of the norm but just a heads up.

8:00 AM		 Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner’s pool person was cleaning the pool and looked in the skimmer and saw the rattlesnake. He shut the lid and didn’t look back. When I arrived, I lifted the heavy granite lid and the poor snake was squished and motionless. I assumed the snake was dead because it was not moving and was squished. When I went to open my bucket back up to put it in the desert the snake was moving and rattling and looked to be doing ok. It had a little gash on its neck, but I think with time it’ll make a full recovery. The home had a lot of natural desert around it.

12:30 PM		 Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner called about a small western diamondback rattlesnake that was curled up next to his garage door. The snake was still in the same spot when I arrived, taking advantage of the shade that the house was providing. The homeowner said the snake was in the same spot yesterday and he tried to spray it with water to get it to leave, but it ended up coming back to the same spot today. I told him that he probably increased his chances of the snake staying there because the snake figured it could get a drink of water in that area. Home is surrounded by a golf course with a lot of open patches of desert in between houses.

3:30 PM		 Mesa 85207 Sonoran Gophersnake Caller reported a Gophersnake stretched along the home’s exterior wall. The snake remained between the wall and the cinderblock perimeter wall. I was able to reach in and grab the snake from the void. No additional snakes recovered.

10:00 AM		 Mesa 85207 Sonoran Gophersnake The homeowner heard something in her garage last night but didn’t see anything. When she looked this morning she saw the big gophersnake in the corner of her garage and its head was stuck in a sticky trap. The garage was sealed well, but she said she leaves the garage door open all the time. I was able to get the snake off the trap unharmed. She has a little desert drainage behind her home and also a golf course nearby.

5:00 PM		 Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners called after going to take their trash out to the road and they heard the buzzing of a small rattlesnake. They spotted the snake and called our hotline to which I came out and the snake was as described behind the garbage cans. The snake was extremely small still for this time of year, but I noticed that it had some old injuries that looked as though they had healed at this point. Perhaps stunting its growth a bit. I contained the snake and brought it to the next nearby desert habitat and released it appropriately into deep cover with lots of nearby resources. The home it was relocated from is in a gated community that sits against the mountainside of a small local Mountain with lots of natural habitat. The home has partially block fencing and partially view fencing, but we discussed the potential of rattlesnake-proofing their backyard. They also have dogs. They are interested in getting rattlesnake aversion training or at least doing the fencing to protect them in the backyard.

The home was really close to a preserve with a lot of good habitat. The home had some heavier vegetation in the back yard but the front yard was pretty open.

He stopped watching it, but he called us. I found it at the next-door neighbors house on their patio under a bunch of carpets.

8:30 AM		 Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake This is the second time the homeowner has called us out in the last couple of months. I was the responding agent the first time as well so it was nice to see her again under the circumstances. She was walking out of her gate to go for a morning walk and saw the baby rattlesnake on the front side of the gate. She recently got fencing done and this snake was in the front yard. The neonate had a large meal in its stomach and was just hanging out digesting, I easily got it in the bucket. This neighborhood has a good-sized mountain behind the houses where I presume all the snakes come down from.

8:00 PM		 Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners called after finding a rattlesnake in the backyard by the sliding door. When I arrived it had not moved and I got it into my bucket. I checked the rest of the yard and this property was great snake habitat due to a large rock structure in the middle of the yard. These rocks had tons of rodent holes and were a great spot for a snake to stay long-term. They also had a small wash on one side of the yard with a view fence where the snake had to have come from. The rest of the yard had a wall. They are interested in getting an estimate for the view fence portion.

9:00 PM		 Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners called after seeing a rattlesnake inside their garage. When I arrived they told me the snake was in there yesterday but they mistook the rattling for noise coming from the water softener. The snake was also no longer on site and this garage was absolutely cluttered. It took me a while to clear the area where they last saw it and check all of the places it could be. Eventually I asked to move the shelving units that seemed flush with the wall but they all had a gap at the bottom where the snake could have gone behind them. Sure enough, it was back there behind the very last shelf. Once I got them moved I was able to get the snake into my bucket. I checked the rest of the property and there was not much notable about the yards. This snake definitely just made its way into the garage when it was left open and had plenty of places to hide. So I just advised they clean up the clutter in the garage and get things off the ground and not leave the door open for extended periods of time. Very nice people and patient with how long it took me to find the snake. Upon request, I also spent a while educating them on rattlesnake bites and what to do.

When they talked to Apryl they said they couldn't afford to have us come out. About 15 minutes later we got a seperate call from the exact same community. I went and ran that call and before going to release I looked up this callers address and was only 3 minutes away. So I decided to run this call for free and went and picked up the snake. This community is very close to open desert and the snake was likely out and about waiting for the rain to come and hunkered down at the front of the property by the door.

10:30 PM		 Mesa 85206 Groundsnake Manager called about a tenant with a snake in their apartment. After about 10-15 mins of searching, I discovered a large Groundsnake under her dishwasher. Had to do a bit of disassembly but managed to get the snake out unharmed. Took snake to a park across the street and released it into a small hole next to a sprinkler head.

She thought the dog may have been bit so she took him to the vet. Turned out there was no bite so all is well. Took snake back into the nearby desert and released it into a large packrat nest.

11:00 PM		 Gilbert 85203 None Received call from a customer stating that there was a rattlesnake inside of his neighbor’s house. Caller said that he lived on in a guest home on his neighbor’s lot and was calling for her. Customer stated snake got in from open front door. Arrived at property on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Reservation and was greeted by caller who showed me inside customer’s home. Greeted customer who was on the couch and she pointed to me where she first saw the snake near a rolled up carpet between living room and the kitchen. Customer stated she saw the snake and it “rattled and growled” at her. She stated she saw the snake go further into the kitchen behind refrigerator. Kitchen was structurally in disrepair and cluttered with empty cans and trash. Called assisted in clearing out the kitchen. There was a hole in the wall near the sink that lead to the outside. Looked under refrigerator, sink, and cabinets. Structural damage and rodent litter noted throughout. Finished up in the kitchen area and inspected the outside property. Property sits between 2 large agricultural fields and called stated it is flood irrigated. Many overgrown grasses and perennial plants around property. Poked my head under crawl space and noted a water leak from inside the home with water pooling. Pointed out all areas to caller and provided education on snake behavior. Performed quick inspection of the rest of the home. The rooms were packed with belongings and inaccessible for the most part. I suspect if there was a snake it may have been a gophersnake as the customer stated it was a yellow color and hissed. The owner of the home seemed like she may not have been fully aware of what was happening. Opted to not charge the customers and told the owner if she sees the snake again to call us.

8:00 PM		 Mesa 85203 Longnosed Snake Homeowner in Mesa called about a snake in his garage. When I arrived I spotted the Longnose Snake stuck in a glue trap in a corner near the garage door. The seal on the garage was a bit worn out and had enough space for the small snake to enter even with the door closed. I was able to free the snake relatively easy and after adjusting his jaw he seemed just fine and ready to get back out into a better place.

7:30 PM		 Mesa 85201 Blacktailed Rattlesnake Mesa Arts Center was called in by staff. This was an odd call. The security guard almost stepped on the black tail. This is smack dab in the middle of the city nothing but businesses and concrete. There is no desert for 20 miles. I think the snake must have got up into a vehicle or hitched a ride on something and came out while the vehicle was parked.

9:30 PM		 Mesa 85201 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Homeowner called with a rattlesnake under their travel trailer at an RV park. They were very concerned about their outdoor cats. Since the travel trailer was very high up off the ground and not fenced in and the rattlesnake was accessible from the edge of it.I decided to go out and relocate the snake. When I got there, it was curled up in between 2 ladder rungs at the back end of the trailer. I was able to relocate the snake to a nearby wash into deep coverage by the Salt River.

With children around and a school nearby, they decided to have it relocated since it wasn’t leaving on its own. There wasn’t much around this building, but there was some vegetation with drip irrigation, which is likely what attracted the snake. The school is surrounded by a lot of desert and open agricultural land.

When I arrived I found the Mojave Rattlesnake stretched out under the door along the home. Yard was fairly large but lacked good hiding places for snakes. Had multiple gates with gaps which is likely where the snake entered. Snake released into a rodent hole at the base of a creosote bush within estimated home range.
