This is the second rattlesnake they have had relocated from their backyard this year. They previously used Arizona rattlesnake services, which referred them to us. This time when I arrived the snake was as described curled up in the backyard and was a young Western diamondback. The home is located in a vast broken-up gated community in the Cave Creek area. It has broken patches of desert habitat between the homes and Desert landscaping. The home has a mostly block wall for a fence, however, the gate to the backyard is not rattlesnake-proofed and they are interested in having the backyard. Rattlesnake proofed the snake was contained in a bucket and then released within its home range into a desert habitat far from other buildings into a large borough system going under a series of creosote bushes

5:30 PM		 Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner had seen this gravid female hanging around her fountain for multiple days before she decided to call. She was having someone come work on the fountain the following day and didn’t want the snake to be harmed. The fountain was in the front and the home had open desert all around. Released directly into cover via a packrat nest that sat on the edge of a wash.

He then watched the snake slither into his yard and go into his back yard through some drain holes in his fence. The snake was on the back patio when I arrived. The home had a view fence that backed up to desert and a golf course. The preserve was just across the street.

Some are snake-trained and some aren’t but she was able to get everyone inside safely. The snake then moved under some nearby cover from a bench and that’s where I grabbed it. The yard is large but not a lot of hiding spots. She did say she thought she heard a rattle yesterday by the pool equipment. The home is really close to a lot of desert.

It was verified as a baby coachwhip and was harmless. Upon arrival the snake was deceased and an inspection of the garage and entire yard was conducted. No other snakes were located.

11:30 PM		 Cave Creek 85262 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Homeowner called about a large Diamondback in her backyard. When I arrived the snake was cruising around the yard. The home is surrounded by open desert and has a preserve right across the street and is no stranger to rattlesnakes as they have had us out a few times before. The yard is large and has a perimeter view fence with no fencing so snakes have a lot of areas to hang out in the yard.

The snake was still there when I arrived, and it was captured and relocated northeast of the property into a packrat nest under a large tree just outside a wash.

I caught it and inspected the property, and found a larger adult about 10 feet away hidden behind some planters. I captured it and did not find any other animals.

When the garage door was shut, there were no clear openings meaning the snake probably entered while the garage door was open. There were no signs of rodent activity in the garage so it could have just been using it as a spot to stay cool before moving on. Easy grab and short trip out to a packrat nest in the adjacent desert.

I searched her front and back yard. Didn’t find anything. Her neighbors yard was vacant so I searched it and was about to open the back gate when I saw the snake watching me from under the gate.

8:00 PM		 Casa Grande 85122 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The snake bit the homeowners dog out in the backyard. He said he couldn’t grab his dog because the snake was outside. I told him that the snake wouldn’t attack him to just grab his dog and take it to the vet. He did not do this, he along with five other people watched their dog dying on their back patio for thirty minutes while I drove there. The dog was in bad shape when I got there and outside all alone. They took the dog to the vet after I caught the snake.

From the video they took it appeared to be a bigger one than the one I got for them today. I looked around and didn’t find anything else. They had chickens running around the back yard with food spread all over the ground. They also had a garden with melons everywhere. They had a lot of vegetation around. They were also surrounded by wide open desert.

The snake may have ingested some of that because it was not doing too great. I rinsed the snake off when I relocated it, but it was barely moving. I’m not sure it’s going to make it. The homeowner had a big gaps under her front door like half inch gap. Her complex had some fields and desert across the street.

With children around and a school nearby, they decided to have it relocated since it wasn’t leaving on its own. The school is surrounded by a lot of desert and open agricultural land.

6:30 PM		 Casa Grande 85194 Mojave Rattlesnake Homeowner called about a Rattlesnake outside her back yard door. When I arrived I found the Mojave Rattlesnake stretched out under the door along the home. Yard was fairly large but lacked good hiding places for snakes. Had multiple gates with gaps which is likely where the snake entered. Snake released into a rodent hole at the base of a creosote bush within estimated home range.

When I arrived, I found a Mojave rattlesnake between the front door and the garage, curled up in a corner. The snake was likely passing through the area and settling in for the night, as this is a very active time of year for snakes just after sunset. I took the snake back into the desert behind the neighborhood and released it into deep cover in a rodent burrow at the base of a mound of bushes.

When I arrived it had moved under the bench press and was easy to secure in my bucket. This huge western diamondback was located to a heavily vegetated wash with many rodent holes in the nearby desert habitat.

5:00 PM		 Casa Grande 85122 Sonoran Sidewinder The homeowner called about a small rattlesnake curled up by her AC unit. When I arrived, I found the Sidewinder in the same spot. Temps are about 105 right now so this shady area was likely keeping him alive. Home is right up against the open desert, and the back wall is cinderblock, so the snake was likely just stuck in the yard and unable to find its way back into the desert. Gate gaps and holes in the block wall for drainage are easy access points to this yard and likely how the snake entered. Took the snake back out into the desert nearby and placed it into the deep cover of a rodent hole at the base of a creosote bush.
