Surprise | 85378 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | A woman called about a rattlesnake coiled up on the side of her house. She was afraid she would lose sight of it as it started to move through some old boxes stored outside. It ended up hiding inside a narrow, square box until I arrived. I moved the box with my tongs to an open area and gently tipped it until the snake came out. I was then able to get it into the bucket. I performed a full walk-around of the yard, which had lots of cover, clutter, and water sources from a pool and irrigation, but no other snakes were found. The snake likely entered through the gate or the poorly screened drainage hole in the wall. The property bordered the eastern side of the Agua Fria River bed. |

Surprise | 85387 | Mojave Rattlesnake | The homeowner called after seeing a rattlesnake in her backyard. She watched as it crawled under a shrub. I arrived soon after but could not find the snake. I did a very thorough search of the entire property, which was full of dense cover. I left and told her to call if she saw it again. She called me about 45 minutes later and said the snake was under the same shrub. When I arrived, the snake was again nowhere to be found. After about 10 minutes of searching, I found the snake in the shrub about 4 feet off the ground. |

Surprise | 85387 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | A crew member at a construction site was moving materials and unknowingly came dangerously close to a rattlesnake. They let the snake stay on site, but the following day, when it was still there, they decided to call us. This was a typical construction site, with piles of building materials, refuse, and large containers. It sat on the edge of a development and had no barrier to the open native desert to the west. No other snakes were found. |

Surprise | 85387 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowners were preparing to leave for a vacation when they noticed a young rattlesnake curled up within the edge of their garage. They watched the snake periodically while I drove to the home for capture and relocation. When I arrived the rattlesnake was as described curled up in the side of the garage and was easily placed into the bucket for relocation. The home is nestled amongst several other agricultural-style plots in a thriving and vast desert habitat with several vegetated washes running through the neighborhood and dirt roads. |

Surprise | 85387 | Sonoran Gophersnake | The homeowner called about two gophersnakes in his front yard. By the time I had arrived, one had moved around to the side of the home just off of the property. The other stayed still near the walkway between the driveway and the front door. The home was located on the western edge of a brand-new development with lots of native desert just beyond the property line. I was able to capture both and then do a quick search but did not find any other snakes. Unfortunately, I was unable to sex the snakes so I can't be sure if it was a mating pair, two stubborn males, or just a chance encounter. |

Surprise | 85387 | Sonoran Gophersnake | The homeowner and fence client called us about possibly having two rattlesnakes in a fenced in area on the property. The home doubles as a private daycare and there were lots of young children present. The area that the snake(s) was seen was a fully fenced in playground, which was not occupied at the time. When I arrived, there was some debate among the individuals present as to how many snakes were actually seen and if they were indeed rattlesnakes. An employee was able to show me a picture that she took and it was a gopher snake. I was later told that the individual that took the picture first saw the snake in one part of the playground, left for a short time, and when she returned the snake had moved. She assumed that she had seen two different snakes. After taking a picture of the snake, she watched it disappear into a rodent hole near the snake fencing. There were holes on the outside of the fence as well, and the homeowners were hopeful that the snake was now gone. I ran a hose to the hole outside of the fence and began to fill it with water. A short time later, the gopher snake emerged from the hole inside the fence. After the capture, I ran the water in all of the additional holes outside of the fence, but nothing ever came out. I made sure to check around the property for more snakes. There was a lot of clutter mostly consisting of toys and equipment for the daycare, but also a lot of tools and landscaping items. I did not find any additional snakes, but there was plenty of shaded structure, irrigation for landscaping, and likely an abundance of food based on the rodent holes and large numbers of quail nearby. I took a lot of pictures of the fence and sent them off to the fence team. |

Surprise | 85387 | Mojave Rattlesnake | The caller reported a rattlesnake hiding in a crack on the side of the house in the rear yard. When I arrived the snake was in the same spot, trying to remain discreet. The hole actually led to the underside of the built-in outdoor grill. I was able to snatch him from under the grill. No other snakes were recovered. Rattlesnake fencing was recommended, but declined by the homeowner. |

Surprise | 85374 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The customer had stated on the call that there was a juvenile rattlesnake on her front porch in the corner and had been coiled there for a decent amount of time, unsure of the species, but would watch it until my arrival. Upon my arrival, the snake had not moved and was identified as a baby western diamondback. The customer had stated this wasn’t their first snake call and had used our company in the past, as well as for our fencing for their backyard. The snake was most likely there due to recent construction in the neighborhood/suburban expansion and being pretty close to a desert preserve. Once the snake was removed from the property, I drove out of the community and parked on the side of a desert preserve. I hiked this juvenile into the preserve, walked down a wash a decent distance to ensure it wouldn’t find its way back to a street. I then released it into a pack-rat hole under some large shrub and it went in right away. |

Surprise | 85387 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | During the call made to us, the customer had stated he was about to move his garbage bins from his backyard to the front yard when he started hearing a loud rattle and hissing noises. After backing up, he noticed the head peeking out behind the bin, but could not identify the species of rattlesnake or size. The customer had stated he was not comfortable being near the snake or watching it until arrival due to the location of the snake and its demeanor. However, upon my arrival, thankfully the snake was still located under/behind the bin in his backyard, was gently removed from the property, and properly identified as a healthy, adult Western Diamondback. After further inspection of the property, no more snakes were found and his yards was very open and well-maintained. It is assumed that the snake was most likely there because the layout of his house offered a nice cool, shaded area on the side of his backyard near his gate. It seemed to be a newer neighborhood as well with recent construction, and many desert plots surrounding the area where the snake likely originated from. The beautiful snake was driven out of the neighborhood and hiked into a desert plot, far away enough from any roads and residential areas. Once hiked into the desert, I carefully released the Diamondback into a large pack-rat hole under a large, shaded tree/shrub. |

Surprise | 85387 | Mojave Rattlesnake | Received call about a rattlesnake in a backyard. Arrived at home and greeted customer in the side yard. Customer showed me a video of the snake. Video was from a distance and grainy and I initially ID’d snake as an atrox. Customer stated the last he saw snake it was in a defensive posture crawling away from home towards block wall north of the patio. Customer stated he kept an eye around areas of the yard the snake could exit until I arrived but didn't not see any movement. Home was on a corner lot and backyard was large. A large block wall surrounded entire yard with points of entry in either side yard (one gate and another a lattice drainage block). I noticed two expansion gaps in the wall that were approximately a half - 3/4 inch wide. Two thirds of the wall was lined with dense and overgrown vegetation with accumulated leaf litter underneath. Spent the majority of my time inspecting underneath the vegetation, using my hook to rake through the leaf litter. After my third pass I asked customer if I could use their water hose to try to see if I could get anything moving. Customer agreed and I spent approximately three minutes spraying the first area until I noticed a snake moving behind some of the vegetation. I approached snake and utilized tongs to capture and bucket with no issue. Once I saw the snake I realized it was in fact a sub adult Mojave. There were no points of entry in the neighborhood that would have been easy access to this home for the snake. IE the snake would have had to travel 10 houses down and then 10 houses up to reach the front of this house. The snake was small enough that I do think it likely entered through the back wall through the expansion gaps. |

Surprise | 85379 | Sonoran Gophersnake | We were called to a Surprise neighborhood after a homeowner had spotted a Gophersnake while letting his dog out. The home was located in a suburban neighborhood, miles from any native desert. The yard had plenty of irrigated landscaping, a pool, and grass. There were large gaps under the gate, as well as an open drain in the block wall. The snake was quickly removed, and no other snakes were found. |

Surprise | 85387 | Sidewinder | The homeowner of a home in Sun City West has a Sidewinder on his front porch in a corner by the front door. As he was leaving the home, he said he noticed something that looked out of place but did not at first register what he was looking at. The snake never moved and never made a sound. This home was located near flat and sandy native habitat and was only about 3 years old. I searched the entire property and did not find any additional snakes. |
