Baby atrox from this year likely entered the yard underneath gate in the side yard and was denning most likely underneath concrete blocks that they had recently started tearing out. Snake fell into a window well that was a few feet below ground level and had no way to get out.

The snake was injured, likely from the encounter with the homeowner before I arrived. It was still able to move fine and rattle its tail, with only a small amount of blood present on the tail, so I deemed it releasable. No other snakes were found.

The snake had a bolus. It seemed like the snake had killed something and the gentleman’s husband ran over the meal when he left for work, then the snake ate the meal and settled under the bush.

The home had a wash next to it but the desert that was around was all bulldozed. The home has a block fence and one gate.

10:30 AM		 Buckeye 85396 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Was dispatched a call about a rattlesnake by front door for the past few days. Arrived at home and approached front door where I noticed young adult atrox in ambush in the corner of entryway. I then noticed another large adult atrox behind a planter pot around the corner from the entryway. Used tongs to capture first atrox. Snake struck my tongs twice as I captured it. Used tongs again to capture second atrox and bucketed without incident. Performed inspection of the rest of the front yard and backyard. Customer stated she had not noticed the larger atrox at all and believes it may have arrived after the smaller one. No other snakes were found, but I did find a deceased gamble’s quail in the backyard. Backyard had RS fence installed earlier in the summer. Both snakes came from the wash which ran to the north behind and to the east of home. I suspect one of the snakes, perhaps the larger one, may have been in pursuit of the quail which had gotten into the backyard. Thankfully the fence worked and kept both rattlesnakes out.

The snake had found a way to stay above the water and was safe. The snake seemed to get in through a wall gap that needed more cement. This is a new community built in the open desert next to the white tanks.

3:00 PM		 Buckeye 85396 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake A rattlesnake was reported by the pool equipment. The pool service technician had seen it coiled there but left. I arrived and found one Western Diamondback in the same position the pool technician reported. The pool filtration system was leaking heavily, creating standing water where the snake was taking shelter. After securing the smaller snake, I inspected further and found a larger adult also sheltering beneath the filtration system. I captured the second snake and verified that no others were present. I informed the customer about the standing water issue attracting snakes and that additional snakes may visit the area. The customer is currently out of town.

2:30 PM		 Buckeye 85396 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Has two snakes by pool equipment saw today what’s gone by 11am tomorrow but doesn’t want us out today. Found 2 diamondbacks hiding under the pool equipment. Captured and then flooded the area to verify no other snakes were present. Also made customer aware of irrigation leak outside of pool equipment area that may be responsible for attracting the snakes from the golf course.

9:00 PM		 Avondale 85392 Sonoran Gophersnake, Sonoran desert toad The homeowner noticed her dog barking a different bark in the back yard. She then saw the snake and thought it was a rattlesnake. It had moved to the front yard and that’s where I caught it. While I was there, a big toad was by the front door, so I grabbed it also. The home is a corner house next to a big grassy park and a desert drainage behind the home.

The 5-acre property was located west of Wickenburg in a very flat and sandy area with a lot of Creosote scrub. There was a pond on the property surrounded by a small riparian area which included several large packrat nests. I arrived and was able to flush the snake out with a little bit of water from a hose. I searched the property for the mother and or siblings but did not find any. The temperature at the time of capture was in the mid 50's but the daytime highs were close to 80 degrees.

They ended up seeing it again tonight so called to have it removed. They have a large brick-fenced-in yard. The fence has a lot of drain holes and an automatic rv gate. Two sections of the fence is view fence. The yard is clean and well kept but they are surrounded by desert. This was a Halloween free removal.

I arrived soon after but could not find the snake. I did a very thorough search of the entire property, which was full of dense cover. I left and told her to call if she saw it again. She called me about 45 minutes later and said the snake was under the same shrub. When I arrived, the snake was again nowhere to be found. After about 10 minutes of searching, I found the snake in the shrub about 4 feet off the ground.

They let the snake stay on site, but the following day, when it was still there, they decided to call us. This was a typical construction site, with piles of building materials, refuse, and large containers. It sat on the edge of a development and had no barrier to the open native desert to the west. No other snakes were found.
