9:30 PM
Scottsdale 85266 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Snake in backyard. Fence under warranty. Arrived at customer’s home and was shown to the backyard. Noticed a subadult atrox in ambush near patio furniture. Snake was fairly exposed. Utilized tongs to capture snake. Snake jumped alive and struck at tongs but otherwise was captured without incident. Performed inspection of backyard. Some areas where snakes could seek refuge. Several large Leucophyllum bushes. No other snakes found. Inspected fence line. Fence seemed in good shape and I didn’t really notice any compromised areas. The only place I saw where a small rattlesnake could possibly enter was the side gate. It seemed like it was in good shape. Customer stated that the gate did have maintenance done after fence install. There was a very thin gap between gate and jamb. I think if the snake would have entered through here it would have had to try really hard. I suspect snake may have entered when customer was taking out the garbage. Customer would like fencing team to come inspect the fence.

Oro Valley 85737 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Homeowner called for a western diamondback that was in a very tight spot underneath the front door after the fire department had to come out and decided that they could not get it out. When I arrived after a while I was able to get the snake out from under the frame but in doing so realize that it was severely injured and from my experience I could tell it was not going to survive after release. I took it to a nearby desert and euthanized it.

12:30 PM
Waddell 85355 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Arrived to customer’s home and was escorted to the back patio. Customer pointed out a small mini fridge that had not been used for some time and was unplugged. Customer said they saw snake the previous day and it was half sticking out from underneath fridge. The back of the fridge was facing towards me and there was 1/4” mesh attached to the lower back half presumably to keep critters out. After a few glances I noticed a large atrox in ambush in the corner of the fridge. Snake had perched itself on a bottom panel so it was not on the ground. So if I were to tip the fridge on its side, the snake would have tipped up with it. Used power drill to remove one side of the mesh. Since the snake was in a tight area where tongs would not have worked, I used the tongs to hold back the mesh while I used hook to retrieve and bucket the snake without incident. Customer stated they thought the snake they saw was bigger than the one I captured. Snake was docile and did not rattle. Did an inspection of backyard. Very big yard. At least an acre. Rural/agricultural area. Many areas in the yard where snakes can seek refuge or den. Woodpiles, garden areas, overgrown plants, trim piles, etc. Fencing would not be appropriate for yard. Provided customer with education on snake behavior and pointed areas I was most concerned with.

Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Received a call about a rattlesnake on back patio. Arrived at home, greeted customers at the door and was escorted to back patio area. Customer stated their children first noticed it and that it had gone underneath the grill cover which was on the ground. Lifted up cover and observed a young atrox in ambush. Not a neonate but I’m not certain it was a yearling either. Used giant tweezers to capture snake and place in bucket with no issue. Inspected backyard. Yard was neat and tidy with few if any places for a snake to seek refuge. Two points of entry to backyard. The side gate on the east side of the house and lattice cinderblock for drainage in the wall on the west side of the home. I suspect snake entered through the latter as it was closest to desert wash. Inspected front yard and noticed no snakes. Offered to inspect the garage and found no snakes. Customer stated this is 2nd rattlesnake they’ve seen in their yard with the first one being in September of 2022. Customer showed me video of that snake and I confirmed it was an adult atrox. Offered customer for the fence team to reach out for a free estimate. Customer agreed and stated they were also interested in dog training.
