Scottsdale | 85259 | Sonoran Gophersnake | The gentleman was out on a walk when he saw what he thought to be a rattlesnake in the road and then it went into a neighbors yard. He knows his neighbors are snake killers so he just preferred it not to be around. When I got there he showed me a picture and it was a gophersnake, but he lost sight of it by a bush. I looked up into the bush and it had climbed to the top. I was able to get it out. The home had a lot of desert across the street. |

The rattlesnake was very small still and it had made its way on a lip in the skimmer to stay out of the water. This whole community is pretty new with a lot of desert that had been tore up for homes and still more being done. The home is really close to Tom’s thumb and a lot of good desert habitat. The home has a partial view fence and two gates. The yard itself downstairs have much vegetation it’s all very young. |

Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner called and said that a rattlesnake was in the garage. His wife was home watching the snake while in route and it moved out of the garage along the fence in the front yard. She had the garage open so it could get out. I caught the snake moving up against there house. The garage has some gaps but they weren’t very big I think it snuck in while the garage was open. They have our fencing and everything looks good in the rest of there yard. They are surrounded by good desert habitat and have a little drainage area right in front of their home. While checking the yard I found a younger rattlesnake shed in the front yard. |

The home didn’t have much vegetation but there neighbors had a lot. They also were surrounded by golf courses. |

8:30 AM |
Scottsdale | 85266 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner’s dog was outside when she heard a loud rattle and quickly brought her dog inside. The snake was slithering along the back fence with a belly full of something. It tried several times to get through the view fence, but its swollen belly kept getting in the way. It eventually coiled under a bush in the backyard. The yard was large with a lot of vegetation, though all the plants were still very young. The homeowner had a bird feeder and birdbaths, and there was some natural desert behind the view fence. I noticed some feathers near the bush where she first saw the snake, so it may have caught a bird. |

Scottsdale | 85266 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, None | The dogs are rattlesnake-trained and alerted the homeowners to a snake. The snake was found on the porch by the homeowner, who was able to carefully monitor it until it was safely placed in a bucket and relocated to nearby natural desert away from the community. The property had a block wall and a view fence, and the homeowners were very interested in snake fencing. Their pest control contractor had previously installed some, but it was not bolted down at the bottom and was not long enough. They are snowbirds from Seattle and are leaving in a week. |

Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner walked out her front door and saw a rattlesnake slithering around her courtyard. She said it continued moving around for the entire thirty minutes it took me to arrive. The courtyard was shady, and there was some water on the ground from her recently watered plants. Her yard was fairly large, with well‑trimmed vegetation and natural desert areas throughout the community. She has a gated courtyard and a partial view fence in the backyard. |

9:30 PM |
Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner called about a large rattlesnake curled up just outside her back door. The backyard did not offer much suitable habitat, and the snake likely entered through a gap beneath the side gate and was unable to find its way back out. I released the Western Diamondback into a small cave in the wall of a tall wash in the nearby desert, away from homes, where it will be able to reorient itself, stay cool, and find plenty of cover. |

10:00 PM |
Scottsdale | 85258 | Sonoran Gophersnake | Customer called and stated he saw a small snake behind a large package by the front door. The snake is staying put for now; however, the homeowner would rather wait inside. Upon arrival, I found a small gophersnake moving along the front walkway. I was able to remove it and check both yards and the garage to ease the customer’s mind. The snake likely came from the neighboring open desert via a nearby wash. The customer has some standing water and a pool, but otherwise a clean yard. |

11:30 AM |
Scottsdale | 86260 | Coachwhip | The homeowner called about a snake in the garage. When I arrived, I saw a coachwhip next to the freezer. The garage was cluttered, so my initial grab was unsuccessful and the snake retreated underneath the expansion joint in the concrete. When I lifted the joint, I could see a small part of the snake in the gap while the rest was under the garage floor slab. I poured some water into the joint to get the snake to move and reveal himself a bit more. Given the tight space, I had to improvise and used some crazy straws I found in the garage to wedge the snake out, and I was finally able to grab him. |

When I arrived, I found two gophersnakes instead, and she was fine with keeping them around. Her yard was large but very well maintained, and this shaded courtyard area was the only real shade in the yard. Her home has some desert landscaping around it, but it’s more sporadic between the houses. |

7:30 PM |
Scottsdale | 85266 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner went to grab a package off the front porch and was surprised by a rattlesnake that had decided to use it for shade. The front of the house was wide open with many access points, though the backyard had already been protected with rattlesnake fencing. The snake had just eaten something three times its size and was not very nimble, so it was an easy capture and relocation into a large pack rat nest west of the property. |

11:00 AM |
Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowners’ pest company first saw the snake and watched it slither into a hole on the back side of his grill island. He went to cover the hole when he saw a snake’s head coming out and thought there were two snakes. The snake was in a brick, not in the actual island itself, but more in the wall of it. The hole was due to erosion and wasn’t supposed to be there. I put water into the hole for about 30 minutes and the snake finally came out. I don’t think there were ever two snakes. The home has some desert directly behind it and much more throughout the community. |

She missed the initial strike but saw the lizard die from the envenomation and then watched the snake eat it. The rattlesnake then coiled in a corner to digest. Scottsdale | 85259 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner had been seeing this snake over the last few days. This was also a gravid female that likely didn’t want to search all over in 117-degree heat for a cool place to stay. The yard had some vegetation, and the large patio provided a lot of shade. The home backed up to a small desert area between the neighboring houses, with a much larger expanse of desert just down the road. |

Scottsdale | 85259 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner was outside with her puppy when she heard a rattling sound. The dog backed away from the noise, and they both went inside. The snake was by the back patio, up against the house. I searched everywhere in her front and back yard but couldn’t find the snake. Scottsdale | 85260 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner was outside with her dogs when she heard them barking at a snake by the back fence. She brought the dogs inside and watched the rattlesnake. It was at the edge of her grass, out in the open, in a very small patch of shade. It was 106 degrees out, and I was very surprised it was where it was. She had a few smaller rosemary plants in the backyard, which were the only shady spots besides her back patio.
