Phoenix 85045 Tiger Rattlesnake Homeowner called about a rattlesnake curled up under a chair in their backyard. When I arrived, I was surprised to discover that it was a tiger rattlesnake. The home backs right up to the side of a mountain, but the yard is fenced. However, both side gates are not fenced and have small gaps that are likely where the snake entered. I hiked the snake back up a decent bit and found a nice large rock pile, I released the snake on the northern side of the rock pile that way it can choose whether or not it wants to be cool or warm in the coming days and hopefully it can use this rock pile to spend the winter. Phoenix 85085 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner called about a rattlesnake in their backyard. They had seen it take cover under a large pile of bricks along the side wall of the yard. I first tried to flood it out, but that didn’t seem to work as a snake had moved higher up into the bricks, so very carefully started taking the entire pile apart with a shovel until the large western diamondback revealed itself. Recommended the homeowners get rid of all the debris in their yard, as it was an excellent home for packrats. I hike a snake back into the nearby preserve and released it into a large packrat nest at the base of a Palo Verde tree above a wash.

Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners were surprised to find a rattlesnake coiled up next to their front door. Several years ago, they had a dog that was bitten and unfortunately killed by a rattlesnake, so they were very concerned about the presence of this one. The property was large, and very close to open desert. I had a lot of cover for snakes, mostly from general clutter and some landscaping. The block wall had dozens of open drain holes.

Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was spending time in the backyard with his family and decided to trim up some of the landscaping. He discovered the rattlesnake on the ground under a bush just inches away from where he was trimming. The snake never rattled. It had just eaten something and had a very large belly. The home was near a mountain preserve. The homeowners had attempted to block off the drain holes in the block wall to not let in any rabbits and the snake may not have had an easy escape route after finding its way in.

Phoenix 85085 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake W. L. Gore called about a rattlesnake curled up outside one of their office buildings. The western diamondback looked like he was tucked in for the night. There is a lot of construction going on in this area and a lot of the habitat that the snake likely used in the past is being flattened and developed. Because of this, I had to take the snake a little bit further away than I would like to, but I found it a nice spot of open desert and placed it into the deep cover of a packrat nest right next to a small rock pile.

Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners daughter was in the garage and she just spotted the baby rattlesnake coiled under there leaf blower by the garage door. They had a little gap in the corner of the garage when the door was shut and that’s how the snake got in. It had been raining really heavily the last few days and the little one was probably getting out of the flood water. The home had a drainage right beside it that led to a wash and then more desert. There was a lot of construction in this area.

Apache Junction 85119 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was picking weeds in her front yard when she picked one and noticed a rattlesnake coiled underneath it. The home had desert all around it and was at the base of the Superstition Mountains. She said she lived there thirty years and this was her second snake. She had such a big yard she probably didn’t see most snakes passing by.

10:30 AM
Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner first noticed the rattlesnake in her backyard. As she was watching it and waiting for me, she saw the rattlesnake go under her gate and out into the natural desert in between her house and the other neighbor‘s house. Her husband went out to see if he could see it, and he saw two rattlesnakes. The two rattlesnakes were fighting, then as he was looking around, he saw a third rattlesnake under another bush. That rattlesnake ended up going in a hole under the bush. I got the two other rattlesnakes under the other bush and tried watering out for the third rattlesnake, but it never came out and I searched the whole area and I could not find it. This home is right off of a golf course with some natural desert in between and they have a little mountain hillside right beside them. It is a rainy day and not hot so the snake had full range to go do what they wanted. Their backyard is a view fence with one gate.

Phoenix 85085 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Received a call about two rattlesnakes on the edge of the community lawn at a concert being held at Fireside. Met the caller upon arrival, and she escorted me to the area. Approximately 200–300 people were at the event. The caller said both snakes had disappeared back into the desert. I located an adult atrox in ambush within a ring of Encelia, with a packrat nest situated on the north end of the ring. I captured the snake using tongs without incident. I pointed out the packrat nest to a staff member and encouraged them to have it removed. I searched for the other snake, making my way down into a wash that was part of the mountain preserve and unable to be landscaped. I was unable to locate the other snake.

Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner lives on a beautiful property with a chain-link fence all around and a natural desert area behind the house. He has an abundance of garter snakes, coyotes, javelina, and other desert friends, but this is only his second rattlesnake since 1998. Unfortunately, the snake was in some bushes and spiky tree foliage when I first attempted to obtain it. It quickly jumped up and successfully put itself into a large packrat nest. I found plenty of spiders and a fat packrat before we found our snake friend. It felt ironic to be pulling apart a packrat nest instead of putting a snake safely into one. A western diamondback was found, safely placed in a bucket, and relocated to natural desert away from the community.

Casa Grande 85122 Mojave Rattlesnake A homeowner in Casa Grande called about a rattlesnake outside his front door. When I arrived, I found a Mojave rattlesnake between the front door and the garage, curled up in a corner. The snake was likely passing through the area and settling in for the night, as this is a very active time of year for snakes just after sunset. I took the snake back into the desert behind the neighborhood and released it into deep cover in a rodent burrow at the base of a mound of bushes.

Phoenix 85054 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Homeowner in Phoenix called about a rattlesnake in his garage. When I arrived, the Western Diamondback was curled up next to a cardboard box. Homeowner is not exactly sure how the snake got into the garage, it didn’t look like there were any obvious gaps or entry points. We came to the conclusion that the snake probably made its way in when the garage was open at some point, as the homeowner said they do tend to leave their garage open for long periods of time when they get home from school with their kids. I took the snake out into the nearby desert and released it into a large packrat nest alongside a small wash.
