Arrived at customer’s home and was greeted at entryway. Customer pointed to the hallway to the right of entry. I observed an adult atrox between folding chairs and wall of hallway. Used tongs to capture snake. Snake briefly escaped bucket but was returned without issue. Customer’s stated the front door cracks open at times if there is wind. Customer seemed certain this is how snake entered. I offered an inspection of house and backyard but customers declined.

Phoenix 85044 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Received call about rattlesnake in front courtyard. Arrived at property and customers spoke with me through kitchen window. Entered front gate and followed walkway to the front door where I observed a juvenile atrox in defensive posture maybe 3 feet from front door against wall. Used tongs to capture snake with no issue. Performed inspection of rest of the courtyard and backyard and found no other snakes. Both areas largely free of clutter or overgrown landscaping plants. Provided education on snake behavior and offered customer a free fencing quote to which he accepted. I suspect snake entered through front gate and sought refuge as courtyard was north facing. Customer states this is the 2nd rattlesnake they’ve seen on their property. Property sits below foothills of South Mountain.

He was not home, but some workers were in the yard and sent him a video of the snake crawling under some fake turf that he had just removed and stored on the side of the house. The backyard had a pool and well-maintained bushes, but the stacks of turf on the side yard were still wet from the rain last night, providing great cover to escape the heat of the day. I took the snake to a nearby trailhead and released it into deep cover in a rocky wash away from homes.
