This home was situated in a typical Peoria neighborhood, with many small drainages running throughout. He told me that he usually gets one or two Gophersnakes per year, but never any rattlesnakes. The snake likely came in through one of the block drains or under the gap under the gate.

After capturing the snake, I checked the rest of the yard for additional snakes but found none. This home in Peoria is near several large rocky hills, but development is quickly encroaching on the native habitat. The yard was very clean with well-groomed landscaping. The best way in or out is from a view fence that overlooks a rocky man-made drainage. The homeowners would like to be contacted about snake fencing.

5:00 PM		 Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Whilst cleaning up the rear yard, the homeowner noticed a juvenile western diamondback coiled near a block wall. The snake remained, likely sleeping until I arrived. The snake was removed without incident and no further snakes were recovered during a courtesy inspection.

1:30 PM		 Peoria 85383 None The homeowner called to have a kingsnake removed. The bush that the snake was seen entering was observed until I arrived, however, it managed to move on. A very thorough search of the backyard turned up no snake. I have advised the client that I will return for no charge if she sees it again today.

2:00 PM		 Peoria 85383 Sonoran Gophersnake The homeowner was startled when she saw a gophersnake in her backyard near her pool. In a panic, but not intending to harm the snake, she managed to trap it by pinning its tail under the foot of a lawn chair. When I arrived, the snake was still pinned. The chair was not heavy, and it had only pinched the very end of the tail leaving a small impression. Holding the snake, I was able to get a closer look at its tail. There were no lesions or bleeding, and the snake was acting quite normal. The home is in a Peroia neighborhood situated very close to a mountain preserve, with several natural drainages running through out. The back yard had a pool, but no landscaping or irrigation. There was a typical arrangement of patio furniture, potted plants, and a grill. Gaps under and around her gate as well as a drain in the block wall were plenty big enough for a snake twice its size to easily enter or exit. The homeowner was interested in having these entry points covered with snake fencing. I searched the rest of the property and did not find any other snakes.

8:00 PM		 Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners children saw a snake in their backyard and alerted their parents. Being new to the area, they called us, sent a picture for an ID, and had us out to remove it. The neonate western diamondback more than likely accessed the yard from underneath the gate as there was a solid 2” gap. The back view fence would also allow passage but this guy was too small to get over it. Quick capture and released nearby into a hole under a bush.

6:00 PM		 Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner called after his kids had spotted a rattlesnake in their garage. The kids were home alone at the time, and a neighbor waited with them until I arrived. The snake was just inside the garage door, and it was immediately captured. The garage was packed full of boxes and miscellaneous, common items, and if the snake had not been waiting out in the open, it would have been extremely difficult to locate and capture. The home was located in a North Peoria development very close to a large wash and bordered by steep, rocky hills. The neighbor mentioned to me that he often noticed the garage left open for long periods of time. I thoroughly searched the garage, front and back yard but did not find any other snakes.

1:30 PM		 Peoria 85383 Sonoran Gophersnake The caller reported a large rattlesnake in her rear yard. Unfortunately, she lost track of the snake. I was able to locate the snake during the inspection. It had come to rest/hide in a void in the cinderblock wall. I was unable to get an in-situ photo due to the low light in the void. No other snakes were recovered. I advised the client to trim the bushes and address the rodent activity to reduce attractiveness of the yard to reptiles.

10:30 AM		 Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake A contractor at a new home build discovered a small rattlesnake on the side of the home in the shade under an AC drain line. The home was being built at a new golf course community not far from open, native desert. As always, I took a look around the rest of the property. The backyard was virtually empty. There was a pool, but no mature landscaping yet. There was a view fence with a very low footer separating the yard from the golf course. I did not find any other snakes, but I did leave our snake id/fence information behind for the homeowner when they move in.

2:30 PM		 Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner called about a rattlesnake coiled up in the shade of his porch near the front door. He said that snake has spent the past three days in the same spot, leaving in the evening and returning each morning. This home in Peoria is across the street from the dry New River wash. I have removed multiple snakes from this same area surrounding the river and was surprised to hear that this home does not get many. I searched his front and back yards but found no additional snakes.

7:00 PM		 Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner of a North Peoria home called after seeing two rattlesnakes near a water fountain close to his front door. We have been called to this home several times before. A tall retaining wall made of large boulders ran along an entire side of the property and the yard was full of irrigated landscaping that perfectly matched the adjacent native desert. At first, it was thought that the snakes had gone underneath a large rock near the water fountain. As I started to run a hose under the rock, I spotted one of the snakes along the side of the foundation of the home, and the other had moved several feet up into a thick vine. After they were both in the bucket, I searched, as best I could, the rest of the property. Surprisingly, I did not find any other snakes.

10:00 PM		 Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake We were called out to a Peoria home after a grandchild of the homeowner stepped directly over a rattlesnake while entering the home through a back door. Two dogs were also following the child into the home, and it was at first thought that one may have been bitten. Luckily, neither the dog nor the child was bitten. The snake coiled up and waited near the back door for me to arrive. The home was close to a desert preserve, and there was a large area of development close by. A wash ran between the home and the construction site. I searched the large yard, which had a lot of heavily watered fruit trees and other landscaping. There was a view fence with a DIY snake-proofing mesh, which was full of gaps that would not prevent anything from entering. I recommended a fence estimate, but they declined to request it.

7:30 AM		 Peoria 85383 Sonoran Gophersnake The homeowner let her dogs out when she saw a snake and heard a rattle. She thought it was a rattlesnake and got all the dogs inside. The snake had moved from the gated courtyard to the backyard and when I picked it up she said the gophersnake was the snake she thought was a rattlesnake. She has rodent issues so she opted to keep the snake around. The yard has some heavy vegetation in the front and is a corner home. The community has a fence around it but there is some desert beyond that.

9:00 AM		 Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The owner of a home in Peoria called after seeing a rattlesnake on her back patio through the glass door. Her dog saw it was well and was barking and growling at it through the glass. When I arrived, the snake had moved into a nearby Lantana. The snake was large, extremely stressed, and was not easy to get into the bucket. I searched the rest of the yard, which had a lot of thick, overgrown Lantana and Heather. The yard had a long view-fence overlooking a wash. It had standard chicken wire installed as a snake-fence which had a lot of integrity issues. There were two gates leading to the backyard, both of which were not secure. I did not find any other snakes, but warned the homeowner of the attractiveness of her yard to snakes and made recommendations to mitigate future encounters.

10:30 PM		 Peoria 85382 Longnosed Snake, Longnosed Snake Baby longnose. Snake was found in the house dining room. Identified as nonvenomous over the phone with photo. Snake suffered mortal wound, nearly completely severed about 1/3 from head. It was a very small snake. Homeowners accidentally crushed it trying to contain it when it started to move. They were very sad and apologetic. The person who injured it (husband) was not the person I was speaking to (wife) and I think that contributed to the accident. I am letting the snake pass in a comfortable space. :( I searched laundry room and garage for them as well and saw no other evidence of snakes or rodents. Made fencing removal and showed them how we relocated the snakes. Snake is gorgeous, tiny, and so cute - very sad :(

Homeowners kept dead leaves on the ground purposely to aid in keeping the ground and plant roots cooler. Lots of opportunities for native wildlife. They luckily did have a block wall surrounding their property. 1 drainage hole noted, one corner where there was a large gap between his neighbor's property and theirs, and 1 side gate that was unsuccessfully blocking snakes out with bricks. They are interested in seeing the cost of snake proofing this property but also may opt to do better with their own DIY efforts. Snake was easily found and relocated. The rest of the backyard was checked and no other snakes found.

The home was located in a suburban neighborhood, miles from any native desert. The yard had plenty of irrigated landscaping, a pool, and grass. There were large gaps under the gate, as well as an open drain in the block wall. The snake was quickly removed, and no other snakes were found.

I was a little surprised to get a rattlesnake call this far east of the White Tank Mountains. The property is located about a block away from Shadow Ridge High School on the edge of a development, with some undeveloped native Creosote scrub bordering the yard. The entire area will soon be completely developed. I asked about looking in the backyard, but the homeowner did not think it was necessary, as there was very little landscaping and no shade.

She was afraid she would lose sight of it as it started to move through some old boxes stored outside. It ended up hiding inside a narrow, square box until I arrived. I moved the box with my tongs to an open area and gently tipped it until the snake came out. I was then able to get it into the bucket. I performed a full walk-around of the yard, which had lots of cover, clutter, and water sources from a pool and irrigation, but no other snakes were found. The snake likely entered through the gate or the poorly screened drainage hole in the wall. The property bordered the eastern side of the Agua Fria River bed.
