Phoenix | 85085 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner noticed the snake slithering on her back patio. She said it had slithered all over the backyard by the time I got there. While searching around, I found two rattlesnake skins under a storage bin up against the house—one adult, which could have been this snake, and one young rattlesnake. I flooded a hole under the bin, but nothing came out. The home backed up to a drainage area that led to more desert. |

11:30 PM |
Phoenix | 85050 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Received a call about a rattlesnake in the backyard near a cactus. Arrived at the home, and the customers escorted me to the backyard. I noticed an adult atrox in ambush against a wall, just to the left of a clump of opuntia. I attempted to capture it using tongs, but the snake slipped out and escaped into the clump of opuntia. I asked the customer if I could remove paddles of the cactus, and they replied, “Please do.” I removed a large portion of the clump using my tongs and hook. The snake remained sheltered behind the large base mound of the cactus. I decided to use a hose to flood the area, and the snake eventually made its way out, where I captured it with tongs and bucketed it without incident. There were small strips of habitat nearby, but the home was fairly deep inside the neighborhood. The customers stated they have had gopher snakes before but never a rattlesnake. Given the size and age of the snake, I suspect it may have been eking out a living in the neighborhood for some time. The backyard had plenty of shade and drip irrigation. I pointed this out to the customer and provided education on snake behavior. Due to the location of the house within the neighborhood, suggesting fencing did not seem appropriate. The customer was insistent on paying by invoice. |

Cave Creek | 85262 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Received a call about a rattlesnake in the courtyard behind a fountain. Arrived at the property and was shown the fountain fixture, which was backed against the stucco wall that housed a garage on the other side. The customer stated he watched the snake go behind the fountain on one side and kept his eyes on it until I arrived. The customer stated the snake was approximately 2 ft long. I observed a small hole on one side of the fountain and decided to flood the area using the customer’s hose. After about 15 minutes of flooding, with nothing coming out on the side with the house, I began watching the other side, which appeared to be blocked off with rocks. Using my flashlight, I was able to see a small portion of an atrox head attempting to peek out. I used my hook to remove the rocks, and the snake exited almost immediately. I used tongs to capture it. The snake escaped the bucket five times before I was able to secure the lid. The snake definitely came from the preserve that the property backed up to. I pointed out areas of concern in the courtyard and suggested that fencing could help keep rattlesnakes from entering. The customer declined. |

Tucson | 85745 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | This is the second snake we’ve removed for this customer within the week (by their estimation). There was a healthy-looking adult male WDB hunting, coiled against a wall. There was “snake repellent” and birdseed where they had just removed a bird feeder, and the homeowner said they had been having rodent problems. |

Scottsdale | 85266 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner called after seeing a rattlesnake near the pool in his backyard. He went back inside the house to grab a better flashlight, and when he came back out, the snake was gone. I arrived about 45 minutes later and searched the yard until I found the snake coiled up near the pool pump. This was a large yard with a lot of cover from both landscaping and general clutter. The block wall surrounding the backyard had many drain holes that appeared to be roughly filled with mortar and blocked off with pavers. |

8:00 AM |
Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Homeowner called with a rattlesnake curled up on the front porch, behind a large planter. They tried to get it to move along with the hose and the leaf blower, but it was stubborn and curled up for the day when I arrived. I found it in the same position and the fiesty snake took a moment to secure in my bucket. I was able to relocate the snake to some nearby, heavily vegetated habitat with evidence of rodents everywhere. |

Tucson | 85747 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner called regarding a rattlesnake in his backyard. His dogs alerted him, and after going outside to investigate, there was a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake in his flower garden, coiled and rattling. Tucson | 85718 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | A “large rattlesnake” was seen crossing the driveway, and these customers wanted it removed. When I arrived, I found a large Western Diamondback rattlesnake under a Sage bush. A very healthy and large male snake. Possibly the biggest I’ve seen since spring. |

9:00 AM |
Cave Creek | 85331 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner called with potentially more than one rattlesnake in their backyard. Their dog had alerted them to at least one snake last night, and she saw one this morning in a different location. Upon arrival, the rattlesnake was curled up next to the gutter and hose on the side of the house, and I was able to secure it quickly. After a quick survey of the backyard, I determined that there were no additional rattlesnakes. The western diamondback was relocated into a huge rocky den in the nearby habitat. |

12:30 PM |
Tucson | 85745 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | As they prepared for a party, this household discovered a snake coiled near the front entryway, escaping from the heat. They had been attempting to “scare it off” by banging things on the ground. Interestingly, when I arrived, it was hiding its head in its coils rather than rattling or attempting escape. This was a large, older Atrox, presumably making its way to its winter hibernacula. |

Cave Creek | 85331 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner opened her front door and was greeted by a loud buzzing noise. She saw the rattlesnake behind a planter on her front porch. The snake went on the defensive at once and tried to retreat as I gently grabbed him and set him in the bucket. Released south of the property into a packrat nest beside a wash. |

6:30 PM |
Phoenix | 85054 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The rattlesnake was in the backyard. There were very few bushes and very few entry points. Overall not good habitat. The snake may have wondered in through one of the two side gates, which were the only real possibilities. I advised possibly snake fencing to close the gaps at the fence but its a very small area so not a great candidate. The home owner said he may try to do it himself. |
