8:00 PM		 Scottsdale 85260 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The new tenant of a home in Scottsdale called after realizing that there was a large rattlesnake under the patio chair that she had been sitting in for over half an hour. She said that she was talking on the phone and could not identify the source or location of the loud buzzing sound coming from somewhere nearby. She is new to Arizona after moving from the East Coast, and she thought what she was hearing was a cicada. A friend of her teenage son suggested it may be a rattlesnake, and someone tilted the chair back to confirm. I arrived and was shown to the wicker chair. You could not see underneath it because it only had a 1.5-inch gap between the ground and the base of the chair. I carefully used my hook to tilt the chair backwards, and there was the snake. It had just eaten something. I searched the rest of the yard which was large with a pool and a lot of landscaping. The home is in a development across from a high school and not far from open, native desert. The snake could have easily used a series of drainages to get into the neighborhood. A block wall surrounded the entire yard. There was a gate with a gap, as well as several drains. No other snakes were found.

9:00 PM		 Marana 85653 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Customer called to report a large western diamondback rattlesnake in their back yard. The home is in a new development area and has high exposure to the nearby desert. The back yard has multiple entry points for snakes with some areas of dripping water and plenty of shade. The snake was coiled up by the back door and didn\'t get much attitude when capturing it. I relocated the snake into thick brush after dark within a mile of the capture site.

6:30 PM		 Phoenix 85024 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The owner of a home in North Phoenix called after finding a baby rattlesnake stuck in a glue trap in his garage. He was unwilling to pay for the service and was just going to leave the snake there until he could find someone who would take it. I was just finishing a call about 10 minutes away and offered to remove the snake at no cost. The homeowner provided me with some cooking oil, and I was able to free the snake after several minutes. The snake was uncomfortable and scared, but it was not injured. After it was free from the trap, I rinsed off the oil with some water and took the snake to a nearby preserve for relocation.

5:00 PM		 Phoenix 85045 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was out on the back patio for a while sitting on the couch and when she went in she glanced behind the couch and saw the rattlesnake coiled up. The yard didn’t have much in it but they did have watered grass. The home also had a large drainage in front of it that led straight to South Mountain. They had a view fence with a closed-down golf course behind them.

The home is in Anthem not far from a large area of native desert. The yard was full of mature landscaping and had several water features including a pool. There was a block wall surrounding the yard with a double gate on one side and a drain with mesh on the other. The snake was coiled up just outside of the sliding glass back door when I arrived. No other snakes were found.

Relatively new neighborhood and this was a large old male so he’s unfortunately suffering from habitat loss due to development. Hopefully, the rest of this area stays desert.

8:00 PM		 Tucson 85741 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Mature atrox found in customers backyard near trash bins. Looks like it had been digesting a meal from a few days prior. Customer stated it was the first snake they had seen in three years that they had lived there. Very developed area near a wash but not much suitable habitat other than that. Nothing appealing about the customers backyard either so was likely just passing through or digesting.

8:00 PM		 Tucson 85718 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake I was notified by the homeowner that her dogs startled the western diamondback rattlesnake that found cover on their front porch. No dogs were injured or bitten. She called us and the snake was in the corner of her front porch area next to some potted plants. I safely removed the snake and upon inspection noticed where the snake could have entered the property. They already had chicken wire along their fence but it had faults, homeowners declined a fence referral.

12:30 AM		 Tucson 85745 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The customer called to report they had seen a large rattlesnake in their Arizona room earlier that morning, as the door had been left open. I arrived around midnight and the snake had left the room. After searching around the yard I was able to locate a large western diamondback rattlesnake which had climbed up into an ocotillo in the back yard. The yard is well guarded from the nearby desert with a lot of plants and places for snakes to hide. I spotted a small gap at one side-fence where the snake likely made entry and couldn't figure out how to leave.

This massive old male was cruising around the property the entire time I was on my way. Unfortunately, this entire area is being developed so the desert that this old man used to call home is no longer there. I had to relocate him a bit further than I would like but kept it as close as possible to the capture site.

8:00 AM		 Tucson 85745 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was trimming a bougainvillea in her backyard when she noticed movement around the leaf litter at the roots. Recognizing a black-and-white ringed tail she called us to come get what she thought was a rattlesnake. Her dog had been bitten in this yard before. When I arrived i found what looked to be a 3-5 year old female Western Diamondback Rattlesnake coiled beneath the plant. I gently pulled at various coils to get her out and instead of rattling she just patiently pulled back. Eventually, she’d had enough and emerged from the shelter of the plant and began to rattle. This allowed me to gently put her into the bucket.

9:00 AM		 Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The owner of a home in Peoria called after seeing a rattlesnake on her back patio through the glass door. Her dog saw it was well and was barking and growling at it through the glass. When I arrived, the snake had moved into a nearby Lantana. The snake was large, extremely stressed, and was not easy to get into the bucket. I searched the rest of the yard, which had a lot of thick, overgrown Lantana and Heather. The yard had a long view-fence overlooking a wash. It had standard chicken wire installed as a snake-fence which had a lot of integrity issues. There were two gates leading to the backyard, both of which were not secure. I did not find any other snakes, but warned the homeowner of the attractiveness of her yard to snakes and made recommendations to mitigate future encounters.

This home had an open backyard that had the South Mountain Preserve behind it. In 16 years he’s only had four snakes which for having the desert right behind him isn’t too bad. He didn’t have much vegetation in the ground. A lot of his plants were in pots.

11:30 AM		 Scottsdale 85266 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake This is the second rattlesnake this house has had in under two weeks. The homeowners son got the snake into a bucket but called us out to relocate. This property has a wash right next to it and both snakes definitely came from it. The yard is very large with tons of open space but also a lot of hiding spots on the patio, under patio furniture, and next to the plants. The son said his parents have discussed fencing but have not decided to pull the trigger yet.

The owner stated he went to turn on his front hose and the snake was coiled up right next to it. The homeowner thought the snake was dead but it was just getting some shade. I transferred the snake to my bucket via tongs without incident. This was at an animal boarding facility. I didn’t see many rodent holes on the premise so I believe he was trying to cool off and drink by the hose. I cleared the scene and relocated the snake.

After a standoff of about 30 minutes, the snake went around the corner by the front entryway and curled up in the shade, and that’s how I found it when I arrived. This neighborhood is surrounded by desert and the snake was likely looking for a cool spot to hang out during the hottest part of the day.

The next day, they found the snake still hanging out in the backyard but now on the side of the house. When I arrived, the snake was still sitting on the side of the house exactly where they had seen it. The neighborhood is open to the desert on all sides and the yard had gaps in both gates and the back view fence.

When I arrived the snake moved underneath a plant shelf but I was easily able to move it and get the snake. I checked the rest of the yard for other possible visitors and the homeowner is aware of the attractions she has on the property. She called us 9 times last year so she is well informed on the aspects of her yard that draw the snakes in from off the mountain. She is going to be in touch with Brandon about officially getting fencing done.

They live near a fair amount of natural desert area but usually get kingsnakes in the backyard per them. I spoke with the neighbor and he said he usually shoos the rattlesnakes across the street and they dont have many problems with that. This is homeowner's first rattlesnake in 5 years.

8:00 AM		 Tucson 85742 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake I arrived on scene and was greeted by the homeowner. Homeowner stated he was taking bush trimmings away and stumbled upon the rattlesnake. The snake then made its way to the back yard. Homeowner lost eyes on the snake but had a general area of where it went. I looked in the general area and found the snake underneath a garden hose rack. Snake was calm and not aggressive. I transferred the snake into my bucket via snake pole. I did a property search and only found scorpions. No indication of rodent activity on the property. Homeowners did state they have a lot of pigeons the frequent the area. Homeowners do have a pool. Homeowners brick wall is meshed but their gate is not. I cleared scene and relocated the snake.

I was the responding agent the first time as well so it was nice to see her again under the circumstances. She was walking out of her gate to go for a morning walk and saw the baby rattlesnake on the front side of the gate. She recently got fencing done and this snake was in the front yard. The neonate had a large meal in its stomach and was just hanging out digesting, I easily got it in the bucket. This neighborhood has a good-sized mountain behind the houses where I presume all the snakes come down from.

10:00 AM		 Marana 85743 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake I arrived on scene to be greeted by the homeowners. They took me to the backyard and showed me where the snake was. We used a hose to flush out the snake from behind extra flagstone. I grabbed the snake with my pole and transferred it to my bucket. The home was next to a highly dense desert area and there were multiple attraction points like pack rat nests and birdbaths. Homeowners stated they saw two snakes mating not long ago but saw no signs of another snake. I advised the homeowners to call if they see another one. I cleared the scene and relocated the snake.

9:30 PM		 Anthem 85086 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake A homeowner in Anthem called after finding a large rattlesnake on his back porch. The home is in a gated golf course community and has a view fence along the back of the property that overlooks a wash. There is DIY snake fencing installed but I could not find any significant integrity issues. The side gate also had some type of DIY seal, but it only ran about 14 inches up, leaving a gap above the seal. After securing the snake I did a thorough search but did not find any others, and I was unable to conclude with any confidence how a snake of this size ended up in the backyard.

I arrived on scene and was greeted by the homeowner. The homeowner showed me the snakes location and I successfully transferred the snake to my bucket via snake pole. The homeowners are cleaning their carport to not attract anymore snakes. The previous snakes were found in the same spot weeks ago. Homeowners live in a very desert dense area with a lot of rodent activity. Homeowners are very familiar with snake activity around the area. I cleared the scene and relocated the snake.

9:30 PM		 Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Received a call about a rattlesnake in the backyard. Customer called while I was en route and told me she was watching it crawl up a bunch of random pieces of angle iron and broom handles over another fence. Arrived and greeted customer in backyard. Customer was watching the snake with a flashlight. There was a small fenced-off area of the yard and as I peeked over the fence I noted a large adult atrox spread out along a sawhorse. Used tongs to capture without incident. Inspected backyard and no other snakes found. After inspection, I concluded there was a good chance this snake scaled over the customer’s wall via overgrown ironwoods in the wash on the other side. Encouraged the customer to report the incident to the HOA so they could trim the trees.

He heard the snake rattle when he went out back but couldn't locate it so he called us. I showed up and was able to find the snake behind some wood sheets. The backyard has high exposure to nearby open desert and a wash. I advised on steps they could take to keep snakes out of the property. The customer later reported the dog had been bit and I recommended taking it to a vet as soon as possible.

When I arrived it had not moved and I got it into my bucket. I checked the rest of the yard and this property was great snake habitat due to a large rock structure in the middle of the yard. These rocks had tons of rodent holes and were a great spot for a snake to stay long-term. They also had a small wash on one side of the yard with a view fence where the snake had to have come from. The rest of the yard had a wall. They are interested in getting an estimate for the view fence portion.

9:00 PM		 Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners called after seeing a rattlesnake inside their garage. When I arrived they told me the snake was in there yesterday but they mistook the rattling for noise coming from the water softener. The snake was also no longer on site and this garage was absolutely cluttered. It took me a while to clear the area where they last saw it and check all of the places it could be. Eventually I asked to move the shelving units that seemed flush with the wall but they all had a gap at the bottom where the snake could have gone behind them. Sure enough, it was back there behind the very last shelf. Once I got them moved I was able to get the snake into my bucket. I checked the rest of the property and there was not much notable about the yards. This snake definitely just made its way into the garage when it was left open and had plenty of places to hide. So I just advised they clean up the clutter in the garage and get things off the ground and not leave the door open for extended periods of time. Very nice people and patient with how long it took me to find the snake. Upon request, I also spent a while educating them on rattlesnake bites and what to do.

10:30 PM		 Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake These homeowners called about a rattlesnake by their front door walkway. When they talked to Apryl they said they couldn't afford to have us come out. About 15 minutes later we got a seperate call from the exact same community. I went and ran that call and before going to release I looked up this callers address and was only 3 minutes away. So I decided to run this call for free and went and picked up the snake. This community is very close to open desert and the snake was likely out and about waiting for the rain to come and hunkered down at the front of the property by the door.

9:00 AM		 Scottsdale 85266 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners had a rattlesnake on their front patio yesterday and gave it some time to see if it would leave overnight. This morning when they saw it was still there they called us out. We installed fencing here in the back but they knew the front could still get snake visitors. When I arrived the snake was behind a cabinet on the patio, I moved the cabinet and got the snake in my bucket. The patio was very shaded and this community is right across the main street from lots of open desert. There is also a mountain in the middle of the community where the snake probably came from.

12:00 PM		 Phoenix 85054 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner called after seeing a rattlesnake in her backyard. While on the phone she sent me pictures and the snake was trying to leave the yard but there was mesh fencing on the view fence were it was trying to get out. When I arrived the snake was still activity trying to escape the yard, I got it in my bucket and looked around. The current fencing is the perfect example of how improper fence installation can create a trap for the snake. The sides of the yard were walled in but the back had a view fence. The view fence portion with the mesh seemed to be done relatively okay but there was still some gaps, but the bigger issue was the gates. The gates were definitely the entry points to the yard and one side had no mesh but still big enough gaps for a snake to get through. The other sides gate had very poorly done fencing over the much bigger gaps and this snake made its way in from one of them and eventually found itself stuck in the yard. This house is backed up right next to a large wash and some open desert and the snake was wanting to get back out into the wash but simply couldn't.

She was fascinated that the snake wasn’t aggressive and that it didn’t rattle when placed in the bucket. The property had had some packrat nests removed recently.

3:00 PM		 Marana 85743 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake This homeowner found a snake stuck halfway into a hole in some metal fascia beneath a shed in the back garden. The large Western Diamondback Rattlesnake stayed that way until the homeowner attempted to lubricate the snake with cooking oil. They said it took about 15 hours for the snake to finally get in there. I came out to attempt to remove the snake but it had reached a point beneath the shed that would have required the removal of the floor or cutting through it, so we decided to leave it and let the snake leave on its own.

The yard is pretty well sealed off from the nearby desert with a few entry points, and they are good candidates for fencing. The snake was captured and released within its home range into thick cover after dark.
