It was a warm and rainy night, and I did not expect to find the snake after the 45-minute drive. When I arrived, the homeowners were more concerned about me searching the property for additional snakes. It was a large, wide-open property with very little landscaping, except around the perimeter wall, so it was easy to search. There were several gates between the front and back yards, all of which had large gaps underneath. I ended up finding the Gophersnake that was seen earlier and at the very end of my search. It was just about to leave the property into the road, so I captured it before it found its way into a neighbors yard or got hit by a car.

6:00 AM		 Scottsdale 85255 Sonoran Gophersnake I went out to this facility two days ago. They were moving large trees that were boxed up and noticed two rattlesnakes and a gophersnake under one. They accidentally killed one rattlesnake and the other two snakes went under another nearby tree that was going to be transported. They weren’t moving it until today, so I went out to see if the snakes were still underneath. When they lifted the tree, there was a gophersnake. It had been badly injured by the moving of the tree. It does not look like it will survive. No other snakes were seen today. This facility is surrounded by desert and a golf course.

7:30 AM		 Peoria 85383 Sonoran Gophersnake The homeowner let her dogs out when she saw a snake and heard a rattle. She thought it was a rattlesnake and got all the dogs inside. The snake had moved from the gated courtyard to the backyard and when I picked it up she said the gophersnake was the snake she thought was a rattlesnake. She has rodent issues so she opted to keep the snake around. The yard has some heavy vegetation in the front and is a corner home. The community has a fence around it but there is some desert beyond that.

9:30 AM		 Queen Creek 85142 Sonoran Gophersnake The homeowners called after trimming their lantana plants and seeing a snake hiding among the plants. When I arrived it was still under them and next to the house. I got the snake in the bucket and checked out the rest of the backyard. This yard had minimal entry points given that it was a 5-foot-tall brick wall around the yard with no weep holes except for one on the side of the house. The other entry point was their gate on the opposite side. This yard was well kept and I was glad the husband kept up with his lantanas. There was one leaky pipe but other than that there was not much drawing snakes in. However since there were only two entry points, the snake may have been there for a while under the plants. The area was very developed so the snake could have been just passing through and got somewhat "stuck" but decided it was a fine place to stay under the lantanas. They are interested in fencing and getting the single weep hole and the gate taken care of.

It was able to be safely relocated into a box where they called for relocation. The surrounding area where the snake was found is open desert that connects the main road through side passages. I was able to safely secure the snake and relocate it.

There was a rodent bait box nearby and I saw the snake inside. I opened the box and it was a juvenile gophersnake. The home is in a fairly new community surrounded by agricultural fields and some desert patches.

The door to the unit had a gap under it and they’d had lizards in there before. When I arrived I found the neonate Sonoran Gopher snake and let the customer know it was a harmless snake before I put it in the bucket.

The home had an open yard and no water around so I’m thinking maybe a neighbor had a pool but otherwise this was a very hot desert area.

She watered the hole out last night and a Sonoran desert toad came out. She google it and found out it was poisonous plus she watches our Tik toks so she knew it was harmful. I watered out the hole and after it filled up I was able to catch the toad it was the size of a tennis ball.

12:30 PM		 Phoenix 85024 Sonoran Coralsnake Received a call about coralsnake in garage. Customer text a photo and I confirmed ID. Arrived at home and was met by customer and her father in garage. Noticed the snake in the trap on the north side of the garage door. The snake had wrapped itself around the door track. Customer stated that snake was hissing at them prior to my arrival. Used Pam spray and rubber grips on giant tweezers to gently work the oil on and release snake from the trap. Once free I used tweezers to place into bucket. Snake seemed somewhat docile but this was my first encounter with this species so I’m not sure if it was typical behavior. Offered property inspection but customer declined. Provided education on snake behavior and offered a free fencing quote for rattlesnake prevention and customer declined. Garage door seal was in good shape and home is brand new.

None 0 Smiths Blackheaded Snake A woman from Wells Fargo called to have a snake removed from their office building. The snake had been seen slithering across the floor but not all for quite some time after. They had it blocked off and had been watching the area. I arrived to search the area and looked under some file cabinets to find a little tongue flickering out from behind a piece if paper. I used my hook to coax him out and grab him.

From the video they took it appeared to be a bigger one than the one I got for them today. I looked around and didn’t find anything else. They had chickens running around the back yard with food spread all over the ground. They also had a garden with melons everywhere. They had a lot of vegetation around. They were also surrounded by wide open desert.

The crew had been watching it; it remained in the same spot for several hours before they decided to call. The listed address is inaccurate and was only used because it is the closest one to the site. The job site is in the early stages of construction and is surrounded by open desert on all sides, with no homes nearby. The sidewinder appeared to be a healthy female, though relatively small for its age (estimated to be several years old based on the rattle). It did not strike or rattle and seemed quite tired, though in my experience this species tends to be more docile when captured.

As he was leaving the home, he said he noticed something that looked out of place but did not at first register what he was looking at. The snake never moved and never made a sound. This home was located near flat and sandy native habitat and was only about 3 years old. I searched the entire property and did not find any additional snakes.

The snake had tucked itself back under some debris while I was on my way but we were able to flood it out. 11:00 AM		 Surprise 85387 Sidewinder The homeowner called after seeing a rattlesnake curled up in the shade of a tree next to a watering dish. I had been out to this property only six days prior and removed a Western Diamondback from the exact same spot. This time it was a Sidewinder. The property sits on about an acre of land and has a lot of clutter including large piles of wood and brush. There is a block wall surrounding the entire yard, but it has drain holes spaced about every 5 or 10 feet, and there are several gates that are always open. Across the street is a large section of State Trust Land. The homeowner puts out watering dishes around the yard so that the rabbits and quail can drink. She told me that she doesn\'t mind the snakes, which she often sees, but that if her husband finds them, he will kill them. There are also two Great Horned Owls that regularly roost in the tree that the snake was found under, so this was not at all a safe place for the snake to spend any amount of time. No other snakes were found.

When I arrived at 6:45 the overcast was still drizzling on the property and the temperature was a cool 75 degrees. Being as the rain is still present and that the southeastern part of the property is undergoing heavy cosmetic surgery, most snakes are likely staying hidden until the storm passes and some heat comes out. At that point, I expect a lot of animal activity on the property seeing as the storms have seemed to displace a lot of shrubbery and soil, which may cause confusion and roaming onto the beautiful property..
