Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Kingsnake | The landscapes spotted a rattlesnake coiled up in a corner up against the house in the front yard. I got that one and they said they had a kingsnake that had been hanging around in a hole up against the house by the front door. I watered it out and after awhile a big kingsnake came out. The home is across the street from a big desert preserve. |

Tucson | 85750 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, delete | Homeowners called about a diamondback they spotted in their backyard, which was safely captured and relocated. The homeowners have existing snake fencing, and it is likely the gate was left open, allowing the snake to enter the yard. They are interested in having someone inspect the fencing to ensure it meets current standards and possibly redo it if needed. |

Phoenix | 85083 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Coachwhip | Was dispatched for a call about two possible snakes in a backyard. Arrived and met the customer, who escorted me into the backyard. The customer stated she noticed her dog barking and then saw two snakes, both of which scurried away once the dog began barking. Noted a neonate atrox behind a plastic flowerpot in the side yard on the west side of the property. Used forceps to capture it and placed it in a bucket. The snake was very defensive and struck the forceps several times. Upon inspection, it appeared the atrox had something stuck on the underside of its chin. Looking closer, the atrox’s jaw seemed dislocated, as it wouldn’t close entirely. The more I examined the head of the atrox, the more it seemed to have suffered some physical trauma. Began searching the rest of the side yard. As I moved a large plastic storage container away from the wall, I noted a coachwhip quickly dart back under the container. I was able to use tongs to capture the coachwhip and contain it in a second bucket. Inspected the rest of the yard, and no additional snakes were found. The customer is interested in dog training and a fence quote. The backyard is largely neat, with minimal places for a snake to seek refuge for long periods; however, the side yard where the snakes were found is largely shaded. There are some drainage holes on the western wall that lead to the wash running next to her house. The customer has a view fence, but it seems to be elevated high enough on a wall. I suspect both snakes entered through a small hole between the brick wall and the house, which is the closest access point from the wash. I’m certain the dog interrupted the coachwhip while it was attempting to eat the atrox. |

Tucson | 85745 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Blacktailed Rattlesnake, None | This customer called from a neighborhood on a steep, rocky hillside with some large volcanic rocks. Yard workers had cleared two rodent nests the day before. There was a WDB adult female with a “deflated” posterior that seemed to have recently had babies. No babies were found. it is presumed they were in the now buried nest. Next to it was an older adult Northern Blacktailed Rattlesnake. I searched the property but no other animals were found. Yard workers had seen a third snake without a rattle but related to homeowner that it had “escaped”. |

He wanted advice on area near pipes of home how to seal it off and also see if there were anymore. I immediately transferred the 3 baby western diamondbacks to my bucket and searched area they were located. There were no more found in area. He told me he had a large rattlesnake travel in hike under house a month ago. The hike was unfortunately sealed off and I was unable to attempt to get the large rattlesnake. While the snake was under home she must have given birth. Only 3 the 3 were found. The customer plugged up holes that he suspected they were coming from. He did not want the rest of his home inspected. I did the best I could to look. I told him to call me if he saw anymore and allow a professional to handle the catches. End of report. |
