Tucson | 85745 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Customer called about a snake he encountered in his backyard that had disappeared into a drainage pipe. We ran water into the pipe but nothing emerged. I went to the side of the house and found the outlet of the pipe with an adult WDB floating in the runoff while holding the front of its body within the pipe above water level. This resulted in the latter half of the snake floating on the water innertube style. |

Peoria | 85383 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner spotted the snake in her front courtyard, coiled in a shady corner. That’s where I caught it. The home has a very large yard, and the vegetation is all neatly trimmed. Most of the yard is too hot for much activity, but the patios are comfortable. The home is surrounded by some desert habitat, although a lot of it has recently been cleared for new construction. The backyard is enclosed by a block fence. |

Using an empty trash can, she contained the snake and moved the can into the shade, where the snake was later retrieved. Her yard did not have much vegetation, but she did have several sheds where snakes and rodents could have lived for long periods of time. Directly behind her house was open desert and a park. |

1:00 PM |
Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Homeowner reported a rattlesnake by the front door. Upon arrival, the snake was found curled up in the front door corner. The front yard was inspected to ensure no additional snakes were present, as there is a running fountain and dense, low-lying vegetation that likely attracted the snake. |

8:30 AM |
Phoenix | 85048 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner called about a rattlesnake curled up right outside her front door. When I arrived, the large western diamondback was still in the same spot, which made for an easy capture. There wasn’t much shade or cover in the front yard, so it was likely going to stay there all day until temperatures cooled enough for it to move around again. The snake was released into deep cover in a wash away from homes at a nearby trailhead in Ahwatukee. |

10:30 AM |
Phoenix | 85083 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Homeowner called to report that a rattlesnake had disappeared into a bush in front of her home. She remained outside to ensure it did not leave that bush. The property was very difficult to locate, as the entrance to the dirt road is obscured by trees and overgrowth. Upon arrival, it was clear that the property is a rattlesnake paradise: acres of overgrown ground cover, bushes, and trees, along with a running hose that had been soaking the ground for hours at midday. I recommended clearing all ground cover to at least 6 inches high, or she will continue to see snakes. She will notify the groundskeeper. The property is also adjacent to a mountain and a nature preserve. |

Mesa | 85207 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowners first noticed the snake on the Fourth of July, when they had guests over and were rattled at by the snake in their front entryway. It was in the corner up against the home by the front door, where the house has a large overhang that creates a very shady area. There are rocks there that provide cover, and the snake was in the corner among them. The homeowners had not been using the front door, and they noticed the snake in the same spot again today, so they wanted it removed. Their home is right off a large wash that leads to a desert hillside on one side, and there is another desert hillside behind their home. Their yard is very large, with many well-watered plants and numerous places for snakes to take shelter from the heat. |

The property has a large yard with small, newly planted vegetation, a partial view fence, and several gates. |

Marana | 85658 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner called about a western diamondback in their front courtyard, which was captured and removed. Scottsdale | 85266 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner saw her dog face-to-face with this Western Diamondback on the back porch. Fortunately, the snake did not bite the dog, and she was able to get the dog inside. When I arrived, the snake was still on the back porch. There was open-view fencing, drain blocks, and gaps under the double gate, providing multiple access points. The snake was relocated to a pack rat nest. |

11:00 AM |
Queen Creek | 85144 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | This was at a model home in a new community right off the mountain. The snake was coiled up behind a pot right by the front door. Oddly enough, almost one year to the day, I removed a rattlesnake from this exact spot. Behind this home is a preserve where they can’t build, but in front of it there used to be desert that is now divided into lots under construction. |

3:30 PM |
Scottsdale | 85259 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner had been seeing this snake over the last few days. This was also a gravid female that likely didn’t want to search all over in 117-degree heat for a cool place to stay. The yard had some vegetation, and the large patio provided a lot of shade. The home backed up to a small desert area between the neighboring houses, with a much larger expanse of desert just down the road. |

7:30 PM |
Tucson | 85745 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | There were three diamondbacks removed from the same burrow in the yard. The area had moisture, plenty of cover, and the yard connected directly to the desert, making it an ideal habitat for snakes. |

9:00 PM |
Cave Creek | 85331 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Customer reported seeing a snake in a planter approximately 15 minutes prior to arrival and was not actively monitoring it but still requested service. Upon arrival, I located a healthy adult western diamondback rattlesnake coiled in a flower pot, taking advantage of the cool, damp soil from recent watering performed by the customer when she discovered the snake. The snake was safely captured. I then searched the front yard thoroughly and found no additional snakes. |

10:00 PM |
Cave Creek | 85331 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Received a call about a rattlesnake in a living room. Customer stated she was waiting in her backyard along with her dog and would not go back inside until the snake was gone. Arrived at home and met customer on the front porch. Customer pointed in the general area she last saw the snake. Customer stated that two hours prior she has her back door propped open for her elderly dog with mobility issues. Door was open for approximately 10 minutes. Later in the evening she noticed the snake behind her couch near a coffee table. She said snake rattled and was about “a yard in length” and approximately 2” in diameter. Customer said she began coaxing her dog off of the couch and went to the backyard. Customer stated the last she saw the snake it was moving towards the dining area which was just to the right of the front entrance of the home. Entered home and inspected it in its entirety several times. Customer kept floor largely free of anything other than furniture which made seeing every inch of the floor possible. I didn’t have to move many items. While in the kitchen I checked both sides of the refrigerator and saw nothing. I looked as best I could underneath the refrigerator but still saw no snake. Also checked front and backyards. Backyard was large but mostly free of places a snake could seek refuge long term. Back yard surrounded by block walls with a couple of spaces between neighboring walls that something could get through. Wall in one of the side yards had small drainage hole (I believe snake entered backyard through here). Gate in other side yard was older and wooden and would have been difficult for a snake to get through but not impossible. Informed customer that there was no snake in the house but if she saw it within the next three days to call us and we would remove it for free. I left the property and received a text from customer about 20 minutes later saying she thinks the snake is behind the refrigerator. Returned to the home and this time noticed the head of an atrox peeking out from behind the refrigerator. Noticed it on the side next to the counter. I moved the refrigerator out enough to get a visual on the full snake. Used tongs to capture and bucket with no issue. |

Scottsdale | 85259 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The rattlesnake was coiled up by the front door. The homes in this area have large yards with native desert landscaping and shaded patios, with washes running between some of the properties. The entire neighborhood provides excellent habitat, with many access points, including undeveloped land across the street. |

5:00 AM |
Maricopa | 85138 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Received call about a rattlesnake in a garage at a home in Maricopa. When I arrived at the home the homeowner and daughter were standing outside of the garage. Homeowner pointed in the area he last saw the snake. Customer stated that while he never saw the snake (his wife did) he had kept his eyes on the garage and nothing had exited. After initial inspection of the garage was unsuccessful I asked the homeowner again if he had his eyes on the garage for the entire time (I was an hour away). Customer then stated that he did briefly leave to lock his back gate. I then moved outside to check the perimeter of the home. Customer had a hesperaloe just off the front porch area and I noted an adult atrox in ambush underneath it. Used tongs to capture snake with no issue. Performed another inspection of the garage, front and backyards with no other snakes found. Backyard was various construction materials like bricks and tiles piled up in some of the corners. Inspected these areas well and and advised customer to clear those areas. Offered free fencing quote but customer declined. Though the neighborhood borders open desert I did not notice any access points close by. Subdivision has a wall surrounding the neighborhood but from what I could tell there were no drainage holes and definitely no desert washes going into the neighborhood. I suspect the snake may have lived in the neighborhood for some time. |

Phoenix | 85054 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The snake was hanging out by the doors at the ASU campus. It then moved to a shady area along the building and went under a lip in the structure. I was able to gently poke it and get it out. The campus is surrounded by desert, but they’re building a new community about 400 meters away, and I don’t think all that desert next to the campus will last much longer. |

Tucson | 85750 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | This was the second time the homeowner had seen this snake in their yard this year. The snake had easy access to the yard through the gates, and the large boulders and surrounding desert outside the fence created excellent rattlesnake habitat. Sure enough, the snake was taking cover in the shaded herb garden. |

1:30 PM |
Cave Creek | 85331 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | A homeowner in Cave Creek called about a western diamondback rattlesnake curled up on his front patio. There is a large wash across the street and many new homes in the area, so the snakes are likely returning to their usual summer spots and finding houses there now. The homeowner’s yard was fairly well kept; however, there were a few large lantana plants that I recommended he keep trimmed and well maintained. The snake was released into a large packrat nest in the wash across the street, away from homes but still within its home range. |

Apache Junction | 85119 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner was outside and nearly stepped on the snake in her backyard. It was next to some water dishes she had set out for wildlife. The snake had a large bolus in it. It slithered under the nearby wooden deck on the back patio, which was made of wood slats. We were able to unscrew a slat and pull the snake up through the opening. The home was a manufactured home, and the residents said they had seen this snake last week, but it had gone under the home, so they were waiting to see it again. The home is on a large lot surrounded by natural desert. |
